1989 GT Mach One
1989 GT Mach One
12/88 build 1989 model.
Found this one this morning at a garage sale in Brisbane, Australia. Totally original including stem, seat post, clamps, cranks and sprockets. Nothing is out of place from original I beleive, including the handle bad grips..! Chrome is still in very good condition, however with some spots of surface rust starting to develope. If anyone has more information on this bike please let me know..

Re: 1989 GT Mach One
Fantastic score!!! Swap out the white seat to a blue one and it will set that bike off big time!!

Re: 1989 GT Mach One
Hi,
Regarding this bike.. I've noticed some surface fust developing around the chrnk 'hub' area.. Any ideas on how to best deal with this..?
I would consider getting the frame chrome plated if I had to but:
1: Would it detract from the originality of the bike - is it preferred to leave it in as original condition as possible
2: Where can I get reproduction decals from..?
I've searched for the decals but I can't find them anywhere.. Any ideas from anyone..? Regardless of if I rechrome the bike, I'd still like a new decal set.
Thanks in advance..
Woka.

Re: 1989 GT Mach One
dude, this isn't an '88. check out where the seat stays meet the top tube. that's a '90's bike.
if I couldn't work on it, I wouldn't ride it.

Re: 1989 GT Mach One
actually, it might be a pro series frame, not a mach one.
if I couldn't work on it, I wouldn't ride it.

You reckon..? I still stand by the my thoughts that its an '88 bike and totally original, plus the frame number confirms it..
Why would someone redecal a pro-series frame with Mach One decals anyway..?

Re: 1989 GT Mach One
Nice Mach One. It may very well have been made in 88, but it was sold as an 89 model Mach One. The neck and sprocket were used as replacement parts. The disk looks to be the 85/86 version. I dont recall seeing a blue ano SR mallet, easy way to tell is take the neck out of the forks and look at what color the quill is. If its black its an 85-87 SR mallet if its chrome its probably one of the replica stems GT had made in the 90's.

leave these decals on and just give the bike a CLR soak to get the rust off.
