1985 Dyno Compe Prototype

The first DYNO frame.

I recently found this frame in storage. I did not believe I still had it. After I sold DYNO to GT Bicycles they asked me to design a new freestyle frame. This is the prototype that the production is based on. Hand built by Gary Turner from GT frame components and tubing this is the very first DYNO frame prototype. It does not feature the bend in the top tube at the seat stay / platform junction that the production models have. After initial testing I felt it was not unique enough and I suggested the bend in the top tube to give clearance to the seat stays platform and to give it an original design feature. After initial testing to confirm strength and handling, this frame went on to be used by me as a test bike for other GT and DYNO products I designed and developed for them. This frame was also later used to develop the first KORE product the Thrashguard (The first bolt on bash guard). KORE Bicycle Components was a company I started after I left GT in 1987. Also, this frame was used as the basis for geometry on the MORALES Flatland frames I designed, manufactured and distributed from 1994-1998.

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe Prototype

Welcome Bob! It's an honor to have you among us. Seeing your early Dyno ads inspired many of us to buy our first freestyle Dyno's, and now that we are older to collect Dyno's as our hobby. But your in trouble now! lol
Alot of questions out there about little details on the little differences between years and within years!
Here's the best we could come up with in the Dyno reference section. If you spot some errors please let us know so we can update. Not trying to put you to work already! lollollol  But there is a long winter ahead of us! tongue   Appreciate it!

Love this addition to the museum. Immediate FAV!

I hope you don't build this up in the Spring Dyno Builf Off, cause the rest of us would be in trouble! lol

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe Prototype

Hi Mr Morales. I to, just joined the museum. Excited your on here, and thanks for posting the concept frame pics and information. Sorry for not being an information hound, but until now(reading info on this site), I never new you were behind Dyno. I picked up my first freestyle bike in 1987. I didn't research anything, I just picked the bike that felt most comfortable (I was a pretty small rider). It was a shiny new black Dyno Compe. Years and multiple Dynos later, my last, a 1988 Detour broke while riding with the late Rick Allison at Mission beach. When I returned home up here in Washington state, I started looking for a new ride and ended up sitting on my friends 97/98 Morales. Geometry felt great. He had just gotten sponsored by Schwinn, and he offered to sell it to me. I snatched it up immediately. The point of  this long winded story.......here we are, almost 2014, you post pics and story of DYNO #1, and an entire slough of puzzle pieces just fell into place!

Wow. Hi, Bob. Love your bikes. Do you have the forks for that?

I can't believe the way people mistreat bikes. It also amazes me how many people don't have any bikes and never ride them - poor miserable souls.
