My Hutch through the years
I bought my Pro Raider in June 1984 to replace my Schwinn Scrambler that was stolen the day after my very first race. It was a long contentious negotiation to get my parents to claim the theft on the homeowners insurance but they finally did. I got a total of $250 for the Schwinn. This put me in a hard spot because there were no bikes of any quality in that range. Finally I bought the Hutch since it was the only full chromoly frame in the $200 range. The first photo shows the bike after I had customized it to look less like a $200 Pro Raider and more like a "Hutch." Since it came with front brakes I began doing freestyle. By 1985 when this was taken I was fully into freestyle. The photo with the crushed back wheel was taken as evidence in a drunk driving case. A friend of mine was riding my bike when he was hit by a drunk. He was not seriously hurt but it looked scary seeing his body fly in the air and hit pavement. My bike was thrown on top of the drunk's car as it was towed to the impound yard after the accident. We came to claim the bike that day of this photo. The next photo was later that summer when I had fixed her back up with pink Z-rims and kept on flatlanding. The final photo is how it looks today stored at my parent's house and ridden on special occasions. It may just be a Pro Raider but it was all I could get and I rode it like there was no tomorrow.
