1981 Mongoose KOS Kruiser

81 KOS frame ,fork, seatpost, and bars. NOS Dia-comp MX 1000 brake red, Rad pads, Oury grips, seatclamp, Cyclepro red headset, Suntour red headlock, MKS BMX-7 pedals, Sedis chain, Tioga sealded bottom bracket, Kenda K-Rad Tires. Used Tuff-Neck stem (but looks like new), Tuff-Neck power disc, SR Chainring, MX Crank 180mm, Sunshine hubs, Araya 7x rims, Suntour freewheel, and newer seat. Always a work in progress. Need new stickers, red seat, better seat clamp, and red brake housing. Maybe a Mongoose Gold stem , or Mongoose pad set. I do already have the NOS Mongoose Red Tires and a matching MX brake lever that I need to install.

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: C19 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: WB 42667. Both last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA. around 1984. Reward if found!!

Wow, what the hell did you hang the derailleur on in the 'before' shot?

Is that rigged as a "69'er"?  8D

The derailleur was a bolt on kind like on old cheep ten speeds.

Re: 1981 Mongoose KOS Kruiser

Hi,
New to the kos Kruiser scene, I just picked up a Kos a week ago. (wanted one as a kid)! It is all original down to the dry rotted tires. Stainless bars, seatpost, mongoose seatclamp,(with mongooss refector bracket and refector), mongoose suade seat, (terrible condition), Double clamp stem, Mongoose cranks, BB, Headset, fork, faded red ARAYA rims. I cleaned it up. rebuilt the wheels with some gold sushine sealed bearing hubs I had laying arround, and added repro stickers. It looks snd rides killer!
After looking at other kos kruisers on this site I noticed that most frames don't have a hole in the chain stay (box) near the bottom bracket. Mine does. Anybody out there know geneology of this frame? what year? serial # coding?

Thanks,

Mizzaxx

Sounds like you may have a mongoose Two-Six which was a restickered Kos after Jeff Kosmala left mongoose. There were a lot that were decaled as a KOS due to Mongoose having numerous KOS decals left over.
