1982 Murray X24

My first BMX bike was a yellow and red Huffy Thrasher back in the mid 70's. It had that cool red bananna seat with a yellow "swoosh" on the side, kinda like the Nike symbol. After that my grandma Murray decided to buy my brother and I twin Murray X24's. We were around 10 years old and I guess she thought we'd grow into them! Although the bikes were twice our size we got use to them and before long were riding wheelies the length of a football field. Greg zts spotted a comment I made about that bike in one of my museum posts. He said he had one available. I bought it, cleaned it up!

ACS 24" Rims

Here's when the Murray madness began in the Murray household. Twin Murray X24's. I'm on the left, my brother on the right!

Most Murray's used a Murray seat post which is unique in diameter. I have an X24 and it uses one of these unique seat posts.

Re: Murray, Team Murray, M.O. MFG. CO., Murray collector's unite!!!

Many thanks to BMX Museum member jimmyculp for meeting me and selling me this ride!!! Real close to getting my new X20R finished. I have a couple of these and since I was going to ride it, I changed the color scheme. Switched some of the black X20R parts for some extra red X20Z parts that I had. The NOS Murray Track Certified frame decal really makes the bike!!! Before and after photos included here:

Here`s mine. Not sure how many made it to the UK, I think they were sold as Puch-Murray? Anyhow one of my favourite bikes even though I got a speeding ticket when collecting it!

Re: Murray, Team Murray, M.O. MFG. CO., Murray collector's unite!!!

I got this one for Christmas in 1980 I think. Honestly, I couldn't remember exactly what it was till I found this place. And I'm sure it's a Murray now. It had snap on pads, and a gooseneck quill type stem.

Cameras, and our camera skills sucked back then!

Re: Murray, Team Murray, M.O. MFG. CO., Murray collector's unite!!!

My 2 first bikes were Murrays. first one was red with real motomags and second was a X20R.  I was really impressed that the X20R came with DiaComp brakes and ACS hubs.

Thanks for sharing,

This would be one sweet ride to build (once you get rid of that seat! big_smile) . Crazy shipping prices though.

Re: Murray, Team Murray, M.O. MFG. CO., Murray collector's unite!!!

Man oh man was it wrong with you guys?  Kidding, my first bike was a Huffy Wrangler that I turned into a BMX.  My first BMX was a the Murray 330?  the drop outs looked like the frame was squeezed onto the dropouts.  Anyway, my mom backed over it and thus was born my love for BMX because me and my old man had to replace a lot of it while bending the frame back in shape.  After I had gotten aftermarket pads, brakes, neck, pedals, and handlebars it was stolen.  Still breaks my heart to this day.
My next BMX I saved up for a year with allowance, chores, birthday money.  It was the X20R.  I loved the bike even though I knew it was a tank.  It just looked so cool.  I could have gotten the X20C, but I didnt understand that X20R wasnt Chrome Moly and I liked the black/chrome combo much better.  Live and learn there.  Later tore that apart and built several other BMXes, Cooks Bros, Redline, Mongoose, but my love still belongs to my Target bought Murray!
