Re: 1979 Jag

I can't say I have ever seen one of these, but it definitely looks cool. You may want to search engine on the internet and see what you find. I would guess that it's pretty rare. Sorry I'm not more help, but just wanted to throw your Jag a compliment anyway.

Re: 1979 Jag

In my book shes a keeper. I like all BMX Products products of old school fashion such as your Jag. You don`t have to treat it as if it were swarovski crystal but don`t beat it up either.
I don`t know a whole lot about Jags but I know that they had a serious team BITD. I believe Anthony Sewell was one of their riders. Jag is one of the fine bikes made by BMX Products along with Mongoose, Roger Decoster, Blue Max and Racer-X too I think.
So yep, I`d keep `er. big_smile

Re: 1979 Jag

There was a Jag Owners manual on ebay not too long ago. It was made by MOngoose to appeal to the young black kids in the inner cities. Its cost was a little lower. Hence the colors on the bike..most Jags were black with alot of gold. This is what I know about the history..not much, but a little

i heard the Lenny Kravitz rode for Jag sometime around '78-'79. one of the rarer BMX Prod. bikes. they also made one called Super X.

Re: 1979 Jag

Jag sponsored the World Championships BITD.
They sponsored Amon Emeka and Steve Cohen of New Jersey, Chris Hopkins of SoCal.
Pros they sponsored included Anthony Sewell and Turnell Henry.
I have a 78 Jag catalog let me look it up.
They dont mention their riders, but I'm guessing maybe Charlie Williams rode for them also.
JAG team was featured in "CHPs BMX".

In 1978 (the year of my catalog)
Bike came in 2 versions.
Team Jag (Chromo) came in Nickel or Buttermilk sand
Jag (Trimoly) came in Licorice black, banana yellow, apple stick green and root beer brown.
Jag Moto Mags came in root beer brown or pineapple gold.

Re: 1979 Jag

Renny Roker owned JAG and Kravitz was a Nephew of his, I used to ride with Rokers son Kelly. We always thought it was funny that he used to drive a Jaguar Car, hell we were in high school back then, early to mid eighties.

Re: 1979 Jag

awsome! you don't see to many red ones, I think this is the first one I've seen, a friend of mine once told me he had a red one but I never saw it. BITD I had a black one and regretfully sold it. Keep her and take care of her shes really rare and has an important place in bmx history.

We probably know each other. smile

I remember Kelly driving a ridiculously tall Toyota 4X4 in high school, but recall the old Jag parked at his house as well. I was in TO last month, and had to show my girlfriend where the ARCO track used to be.

We used to beat the crap out of the Toyota, that thing took some serious abuse and still kept running.

We might know each other, I graduated in 85 from TO, do you remember  Yamamoto, Tunik, McNabb and those guys? I used to work at Mark's Conejo Cycelry(Schwinn Dealer) in the Park Oaks Center next to the Melody Theater. What is your last name? I have not been to TO for a while although the last time I did go back there I also drove by the ARCO track to see what it looked like, big changes for TO.
