1987 Kuwahara Magician Pro

Merlin the Magician! She's always buzzing just like neon, neon...

I've always wanted a Kuwahara Magician! I had sooo much fun with this build smile
I picked up the frame, forks and bars in their original grey and pink from cru68100 in November 2012 and shipped them over here to Australia (thanks Chris!).

From the get go, my plan was to go seriously neon! Roberto's Custom Powder did an absolutely stunning job of the neon pink powder, it has to be seen in the flesh to be believed, the camera just can't capture its truly awesome glowy-ness! I was extremely lucky to score a rare black O.E. wheelset off eBay for $50(!!) shortly after I got the frame set. I rebuilt the hubs and after a good clean they came up beautifully. I traced the original decalset off the frame to create a custom set especially for this build including custom crank decals for my polished Black Widows. I restored and recovered the Viscount Aero seat in black pigskin split-suede. I robbed the guts out of a pair of VP-777 pedals to convert the 1/2" MKS Graphite 2000s into 9/16". All the polishing on this build was done myself, the black anodising on the stem cap and chainring was done by Griffin Engraving. I'm running Dia Compe 990s with Dan's Comp adapter plates and a custom rear cable hanger solution I designed and made. smile

Your Magician Pro is HOT!
Already made comments about this bike on fb awhile back when you put up some pics and I have to say again, great work on that custom rear brake cable hanger.  You have some skillz!

Ohhh, boy! Love this bike and I was most impressed by your build-diary. Awesome!!! Your surname sounds like a Hungarian family name? At least, we have that here in Hungary. Congrats, again, superb job.

Thanks heaps Brix! I've kinda been seeing all my latest build designs like an extension of the canvases I usually work on, so thank you, that's a really awesome compliment smile

Thanks so much Andrew! Problem solving and fabricating crazy little details and fixes like that cable hanger are often my favourite parts of the build process. Really stoked with the way this one worked out, it's so snug under there and practically invisible thanks to that cool little gap in the frame design smile

IPD wrote:

I'm with you man, it might have only been the tri-moly little sis to the Bravo Pro and KT, but for me, the fact that it combines the coolest elements of both, design wise, makes it the coolest of them all smile

Woodsman wrote:

Cheers man, I never feel like a build is really finished until it's well photographed!

Köszönöm! wink My Dad and his family came to Australia from Hungary in the 50s. We actually have some really good family friends in Sydney whose surname is Blaze!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read through my build diary! I'm a little OCD with my documentation, but I really love looking back through each build diary after time has passed and remembering all the cool little parts of the process I had fun with.

Instant fave!  Your bikes are always masterpieces.  This is so perfectly built.  Perfectly balanced design with subtle custom touches (I mean, who does a suede seat? BRILLIANT!) And I just have a thing for whitewalls smile

I love your entire process and have employed some of your methods myself, especially with tracing/vectorizing decal art.

Never over-done, always perfect.  I just love your design aesthetic. Bra-va to you!  I'm a fan.

Very pretty in Pink!! I love the resto work you have done on the stem. Very clever mod on the pegs, are the fronts strong enough to stand on with the JB weld epoxy? Love the Neon Pink, Great job Lixy! big_smile

Thanks man! Yeah, the adhesion is rock solid, I've jumped around on them already and I don't reckon I could break them if I tried!

Cheers dude. big_smile

It's true, us girls are strange and unusual creatures in this particular wilderness wink I've always had a propensity for design and mechanics ever since I was a little kid. My friends were dressing up their dolls while I was pulling them apart to see how the articulated joints worked, haha.
