1977 Diamond Back

prototype frame and fork

Ok, Gary here. I actually got to see this bike.
it is quite odd, and has a couple different qualities of welding on it.
the square brake tube, ofdd gussett behind the BB, the length of the slots in the dropouts, and the 3 holes abover the fork dropouts are all kinda new to me.
Ohh, and a euro bottom bracket too.
anyone have an idea on ths one?

Check this out!

Apparently this is a USA made DiamondBack from 1977, and the very first design ever!
Big thanks to Kevin Young! I have been searching for this info for a long time. Seems not much is known about these. Anyone know where I can get fork stickers?

Re: 1977 Diamond Back

I've got a few bits here about it.

http://www.retrobsession.com/pages/Diam … decals.htm

...and I've recently started a dedicated Diamond Back gallery. If anyone would like to add their build, just contact me. smile

Thanks for the info Mark! I would be happy to contribute pics of my Diamond Back to your gallery when its finished. Any idea how many of these were actually built? Could mine and the one on your website be the only 2 left?!

My mom bought one for me in the early 80's. I've never seen another one until now. It had the small bottom bracket and mine was the old Diamond Back blue. Mine had SR Royal three piece cranks and those funky forks are the original stuff too, but they didn't last very long the bent very easily. It had Aria 7 c wheels w/ Cooks Bros hubs with a tough neck goose neck (the square one not the newer rounded one).

Wow, thats really cool! So, where is it now!?
