Re: New Jersey BMX Track History

There was OverPeck Park in I believe Ridgefield NJ. It was a NBL sanctioned park, were I had the pleasure of beating Gregg Esser at thier National. I ran for a few years in the early 80's

Hey guys....guess who this is.
the screen name might help.wink

I did a Google search of my name and seen it in a post above and thought I would drop in and say HI to some old BMX'ers

any of you guys race ABA or NBL from 1984-1987 ?

I see you talked about Kenny Bauso & Clay Goldsmid.

we had some great time at Clays practice track and man have I got
some old pictures and some videos from Nationals and local races.

if you know of anyone that has any pictures from back in
the day in NJ-3 or Nationals I was at please have them contact me.

good times !!

Whats up Brian,

My name's Rob..my two younger brothers (Rich and Ryan) were on the Action Wheels team along w/ you, Clay, Jon K., and Kenny from what I remember. Deptford was our "home" track from '85 - early '88. Good to hear from you. Are you getting back into racing wink?

Re: New Jersey BMX Track History

Not a chance of me getting back into it.

after I quit racing BMX (burned out) after turning pro.
I did the kid thing and got into girls and all that.
I tarted to race SuperBikes in 1993. did that for a few years and then in 1996
decide to do dirtbikes. which I was a little too old at that time for but I didn't stop me.

I'm trying to connect with some of the guys from back in the Action Wheel days.
1995-96

I know where Clay is. talked to Jim Thalman 6 years ago but he dropped off the face of the earth.
seen Mike Nahill and Fritz Otaviano at Atco drag in the late 90's racing cars. if you remember them.
so many good guys we used to ride with back in the day I wished we all kept in touch.

Each of these towns had at least one BMX sanctioned track.

I know there were a few others I never got to race,

there were some really small tracks that I didn't think lasted too long.

you have the major ones, but there were a few I barely seen when starting in 1993

Toms River - (was held out back at a game room and batting cage place.)
Egg Harbor Indoor (indoor)- this indoor ran for a year or more (Rich Farside designed it, I can remember the flyer)
Brigantine - (man this was a small track, no berms made in a dirt parking lot I think)

* this is Brigantine 1983
was a Tues. night race just for points. me leading,
racing Warren Muller and Larry Shute *(no relation)

Re: New Jersey BMX Track History

I raced back in 82-85 as a regular at a track in Cape May Cour House NJ. ventured to Clayton - Deptford - Egg Harbor -Millvile - And a few out of state Nationl venues. It's a shame today there are only a handful of tracks left in the state of NJ. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!

Re: New Jersey BMX Track History

wow, I hardly remember the Cape May Court House track.
but I'm sure I had to go to it back then.

good times.

I watch BMX today and no doubt the boys have skill, but it's too fast and all downhill.
we had to pedal the bikes back in the day !!

Waretown was ABA but that was near the ocean and I know Brigantine is near the ocean. I heard Toms River had a track thats close also. I didnt live in NJ in the mid 80s, so Im just throwing tracks near the ocean out there.

Re: New Jersey BMX Track History

26. Toms River, NJ - Sanction???? (80's track)
27. Brigantine, NJ - Sanction????? (80's track, see photo in this thread. Thanks Brian Shute)
28. Egg Harbor, NJ - Sanction????  (80s Indoor track raced one or two seasons, designed by Rich Farside)

26,27 & 28 were all ABA.

I just barely remember the EHT indoor and raced it 2 times when I started out in 82.
the other 2 I raced often while points chasing, sometimes even on a Tues. night for $2.50 and a blue ribbon for 1st. place.

Hey Brian,
It's been a long time,it's Greg Provost. You should post some more of the pics and some video from back then, I don't really have many pics from then and hope you've got one with me in it. Thanks for answering my question about the track at the shore....it was Brigantine...I couldn't remember that for the life of me. I only raced there three times before they closed it...what a small track that was LOL! I raced Lawrenceville once before they closed that, and I was a regular @ Flemington and Howell from late 94-98 and raced Egg Harbor here and there,I mostly stuck to the NBL. I used to hang with Ronnie Cross, Jarrett Justice,Corey Hughes, Lenny Hicks, Brian Sheppard and that crew all the time. I still talk to Jarrett here and there and we have talked about trying to get a reunion dinner with everyone going on some time this year

I dont remember that sticker from BITD...maybe they were holding back on me ?

I just remember the mid 80's one.
