1966 Monark Dirt Master

This is a 60's Monark converted to a BMX racer.

I wasn't sure what to call it.....1960's Monark 20-incher with Dirt Master decal. This is my version of a non-BMX bike converted with custom made race parts if "Dad" would have built it in the early 70's.

Monark 3-bar frame w/built in seat clamp Schwinn Ashtabula forged fork Rigida 36h rims 120g spokes Shimano 10 speed front hub drilled for 120g spokes Shimano type B coaster hub drilled for 120g spokes NOS Goodyear off-road tires NOS Schwinn inner tubes Schwinn forged crank Wald sprocket KMC chainTroxel MX seat Preston Petty hex grips Schwinn sissy bar struts Schwinn sissy bar clamps Custom welded stem w/ welded Schwinn Stingray Jr. handlebars Custom fork spacer to increase ground clearance Custom rear dropout adapters to elevate bottom bracket (sometimes called a lift kit)Custom welded 10 speed rattrap pedals Custom foam pad and vinyl tape Custom paint scheme designed by my son

Re: 1966 Monark Dirt Master

Thanks, OG'!  I remember reading about some of these mods back in the 70's and wanted to build something that incorporated them plus some other mods I came up with.  Kind of wild on the colors but I think any 12 year old in the early 70's would have wanted to race this bike. smile

Re: 1966 Monark Dirt Master

Thanks, cyclep....

You probably saw this over on vbmx.... I posted it over there as 76 Mongeese.  I just submitted on here for the first time....3 old Mongooses that I just completed.  I'm also starting to list some of my other builds on here.  This is an awesome site and I really like what he's doing here.

The decal was on ebay several years ago.
