2013 Old School BMX Reunion (part 1 of 2)

I missed last year's reunion due to it falling on my wife's birthday weekend so I made sure to plan a year in advance that, no matter what was going on, I could make it.

Friday, April 12th, 2013
I started early Friday morning and left the house about 5:30 a.m., using some frequent flyer miles to get to LAX.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_017.jpg

Once in L.A. I rented a car for the two and a half hour drive North to Stallion Springs.  This thing had 7 miles on the odometer when I picked up and, yes, I broke it in. big_smile  It was fast.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_129.jpg

I missed the heavy morning traffic and got to the high desert pretty quickly.  Even though I lived out here many years ago, I never get tired of seeing this view.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_018.jpg

I got to Tehachapi, checked into my hotel and got my bike assembled.  Next stop, the lodge to register and get my wristband.  This is where the big party happens on Saturday night.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_019.jpg

I headed down to the main camp area, padded up and rolled into The Hangar.  The atmosphere was that same as the last reunion on Friday - really mellow with people rolling in, riding a little and just generally catching up.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_020.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_021.jpg

I was jumping into the foam pit and on to the resi ramp when Kevin Robinson joined in.  I grabbed a Sharpie and asked him to sign my Condor.  He was one of the coolest pros to everyone who attended.  He actually thanked me for letting him sign my bike.  To top it off he said hello to me by name the next morning.  Stuff like that is what sticks in your mind about people forever.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_002.jpg

I went cruising around the camp to check out some other areas.  Everyone was bummed to see that Enterprise had been torn down to make way for a new ramp.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_022.jpg

Some activity at these dirt jumps.

And this other ramp near the old Enterprise.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_024.jpg

I tried to get a lot of shots of the people who attended.  If you know any names I don't mention please PM me.

Saturday, April 13th, 2013
I went back to the lodge Saturday morning to get my meal tickets which I paid for in advance.  Sixteen bucks got me two pretty good meals for lunch and dinner.  As I parked I spotted Rick Allison doing his classic bike surfing and pulled over to take a pic.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_056.jpg

Back down at the main area I spotted Brian Blyther and got him to sign this pic of him at Baldy Pipe in the 90's.  This was Epic for me because I painted the Dyno fish and GT wings on the left and right sides of that pipe.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_001.jpg

Just outside the Hangar is where most of the flatland took place.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_006.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_007.jpg

I spotted these two Knight Proformers and had to talk to Joe Vasquez (jopaco) about them.  Joe added a link to his Knight below.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_003.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_004.jpg

I noticed the Vans motor home parked outside with some stickers and other stuff on a table.  Turns out, Al also drove this same rig to Canada for Rad 25 two years ago - he was really cool to talk to.  To my surprise they were giving away free shoes, t-shirts, helmets, stickers and much more.  Yeah, I got one of those big ones... wink

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/OSBMXR_2013/OSBMXR_2013_008.jpg

Off to lunch I went.  When I sat down I swore this was Justin of PorkchopBMX.com.  His name is Eric ?...

You didn't stop riding your bike because you got old.  You got old because you stopped riding your bike...

Great experience. Did you happen to catch a glimpse of Eddie Fiola on his EF bike while you were there?

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy. smile

That's really cool too how you got blyther to sign that on the pipe, cool artwork you did and its all visible. That's some rad shit right there. The dyno, fish and wings look badass.

Man...great pics! Thanks for sharing.

Makes me miss living in Cali. Lived in Bako for many years, and this is what I dreamed of opening while living there. And of course it happens after I move.
