Re: List of Department Store BMX bikes in the 80s an mid 90s!

Several different bicycle manufacturers produced
bicycles under the "Western Flyer" brand.

They did this under contract to Western Auto Stores,
Inc. from the 1920's on. The bikes were sold through
both the Western Auto Catalog, and by Western Auto
Stores themselves, which were often located in small
towns.

There were plenty in Australia as well. Sports World. Repco, Apollo, Cyclops, Road King just to name a few.

Univega bicycles has nothing to do with the SBS
Redline. Univega is a brand name of Lawee Inc.

Univega was one of the first major companies to
market mountain bikes in the early 80s with their
Alpina series. Univega on later a division of Derby
along with Nishiki and Raleigh but the Univega and
Nishiki brand names were retired in 2001 so that
Derby could concentrate on its Raleigh bicycle brand.
Univega bicycles in the mass market I do not know
but more than so they where and are since the most
where developed and made out of Japan.

Iv never herd of Redline- SBS Seattle Bike Supply to
push out anything in to the mass market yet. There
has been some frauds of product found in the mass
market over the years but SBS stomps it out fast when
it is found. To my knowings SBS has never entered the
mass market yet.

IF Bubba Harris the SBS top dog Redline BMXer
gets the gold in this years 2008 Olympic Games I
would think if SBS Redline did not add something
BMX in to the mass market they would be big time
fools as that would be one heck of a big time money
maker for SBS. But Only time will tell. `clock is ticking'

March 2006 SBS - Seattle Bike Supply ( Redline )
was bought by the Accell Group out of Netherlands
The Accell Group is another big corp that has a good
hand full of other bicycle brand lines. The most are
of high end bicycle lines. The bicycles developed
and produced by the Accell Group are sold through
the IBD retailers.

Sorry, but mmmmmmmm last year at Dicks Sporting Goods in Jacksonville, Fl. they had a whole buttload of DB`s as well as Mongoose. Now Dicks may not be considered dept. store, they`re also not LBS material either.

Lots of these werent department store. Pacific bought out Schwinn/GT in 2001 I believe that was the last year for the real GT/Schwinn productions.  Pacific then made the Schwinn Wal Cruiser, to the best of my knowledge since the buyout GT still isnt department.

Dicks Sporting Goods is apart of the mass market.

Could have been a copy or something cause ive got one from 86 too that has things wrong about it. Ive also seen a few copies
from 87 but with slight differences some look very close to real, they probably did sell copies in selected stores.

Whats this store haha that looks real. What do the forks and bars look like? If its got the right parts maybe its cause of the 86 rush somehow some of these got pawned off on a couple different stores.

Didn't have Pro Performer bars, more of a BMX type, as seen in the 86 catalog. SR cranks, SR stem, Dia-compe Tech 4 levers & 880 brakes, GT mags, GT BMX seat, etc.

It came equipped with everything it did in the catalog. The only goofy thing was it came with Cheng Shin tires.

I think I paid $229 for it. Mine was blue. They also had Lavender and White in stock. I remember the day I picked it up like it was yesterday. smile

They used to carry Haro too. It was the only department store, that I knew of, who carried GT's and Haro.
