1980 Red Line MX-II

This is the first bike I built after getting back into this mess a few years back. Can't ever imagine going this route again as I'm now a bigger fan of the OG finish bikes, but that's a whole nother story.

It's seen many changes and I'm finally happy with it minus the seat. Still looking for a nice black Kashimax MX... Anyway, I just updated the cranks. Started with OPC and then some newer Flights, but knew it really needed the 401s. This thing rids so nice!

Love it. Did you have it re-chromed then? It looks great. I'm working on a re-chromed GT and put my 401 on it as well... About the same condition as your with some spots worn through to the nickle. I don't have the heart to refinish the cranks so i'm putting them on as they are like you did. cool

Very nice Redline.  Good choice with the 401s, all RLs must have them smile

Great looking bike. I am in agreement with you w/ regarding the seat. Everything else just flows.

Re: 1980 Red Line MX-II

Dude, that looks tits. You are right as rain, I love the way my MX rides. Ironic you posted this, I'm redoing my '80 RJ serial MX-III and have been pondering which way to go on cranks. I have Dura Ace cranks on almost all my bikes, and I love 'em, but I was considering finally getting some Flights. I'd love to do something even more unique, but I just won't do shorter than a 175 - sux to ride shorter than that. I dunno, I might just go with a opc/Takagi spider/cr. Whatever man, that bike is cool.

Yeah, I had the frame, fork and bars chromed. The frame/fork was shot, the bars not so much. At the time I thought it had to bling and look new. If I fad to do it again, I wouldn't.

Well, no argument there. lol Actually, I feel like a dumb-ass for not looking closer and realizing what they were.

Sweet. I have a pair as well and I'm finding it rather difficult to remove them from the package.

Certainly worse mistakes to make than re-chroming this bike ... it looks great.
