Are Hutch Magnesium Hubs chrome plated or polished?
Curious who might know. Pretty sure they are plated, but would like to verify. Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

Plated and the last time I looked I only found 2 places in the country that were able to plate magnesium
Always looking for MXR hubs and pre-88 Free Agent parts.

Magnesium is a very soft, oily metal. I don't believe it can be polished at all.

Magnesium can be dangeous to polish at high speed, too.

If you take the protective finish off, the Magnesium starts to break down and
eventually crumbles to dust. Especially if you live near the ocean. Thy're
supposedly treated with some special process by DOW chem. where they coat
them with something. That's where they get that tarnished look from. Which
then entices you to make that mistake of wanting to polishing them. I wouldn't.
