Re: Thought Hutch pedals where shin scar makers
We did an old school ride in downtown Milwaukee this past summer. I thought for sure, I was going to gauge my leg on my Trickstar, with Beartraps. Another guy ended up tearing his leg up, with some plain platforms with pins. Go figure!

My pedals are clip ins, AKA just two knives I stab my feet through each time I ride.

Re: Thought Hutch pedals where shin scar makers
Sorry Flock....didn't mean to threadjack. I thought all you guys knew I've been making and selling replacement cages for XCII for a year and a half now.
Any pedal can do serious damage, and those DK's are no exception. Take one to the shin and you're going to be hurting. When I was a kid...maybe 10....I slipped a pedal to the front side on what were probably simple rat traps. My foot stomped the ground and the pedal jammed my Achilles' tendon. The bike stopped immediately locked up on my tendon. The next day, I was in agony, and couldn't keep my foot at 90 degrees to my leg...I had to drop it down..."limp ankled". Went to the doc, and he decided the right thing to do was put my foot in a cast perpendicular to my leg (normal position) to keep it from freezing in the wrong position. I shed a few tears that day.
Platforms with pegs, caged pedals, etc....they can all hurt. You can get your shins opened up by pegs too. Done so myself. Key is....keep your foot firmly planted on the pedal. There's a real trade off between traction and the ability for a pedals to jab you.

Re: Thought Hutch pedals where shin scar makers
i went tatt'd the notorious hutch pro pedal to the back side of my calf , i remember as a kid how much they hurt and was like it would be a killer tatt . and no i didnt do any blood stuff just good ole black ink with shading . the tatt was my birthday present to myself
i'm sick of people lowballing and changing their mind after the details of item were given then asking for money off or refund . now all items are sold as is no returns ask all questions before dibbing .

Re: Thought Hutch pedals where shin scar makers
One strange thing I always noticed on my XC-II pedals was that I slipped a lot with the stock cages and it always hurt like hell and I think I chipped the bone a few times.
But when I switched to the Hutch Pro pedals I rarely slipped but when I did there was always blood. The funny thing was it didn’t seem to hurt as bad as the old stock XC-II cages did. It probably had something to do with the bunt teeth on the stock XC-II.
You should not have many slipping issues with those!
Yeah I got some scars! Haha!

Re: Thought Hutch pedals where shin scar makers
Way BITD we raced in the rain. I couldn't keep my feet on my Shimano DXs to save my life, or race.
The next weekend I had SR Speed Traps with TROG cages.
Sure during the weekday rides I'd bloody a shin here and there but racing wise I can't remember any more problems.
Love the aggressive caged pedals.
RIP Autumn Pasquale
