1996 Robinson Pro

I have my Brothers 1996 Robinson Pro, I currently have Skyway Tuffs on it, as the original rims were flaking and pitted real bad, I have the original GT sealed bearing hollow axle mohawk hubs, but I don't know what rims would have come on this bike originally, they are 32 hole, any help?

Weinmann 2521 Double Wall, 36-hole

Okay, what would Joe do at a time like this? He'd kill everybody and smoke some cigarettes.

32 hole was for the 95

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

Yes, the original hubs and rims are 32 hole, but the rims are shot, i was also told Araya Super 7's? or Araya RB17's? But I was thinking Weinmanns like Coletrickle stated.

Ah, I thought the messages were from two different people, it definitely is 32 hole, the original receipt says 96, but maybe its a late 95?

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

You can check out the bike on my museum, I took apart the original rims, as they were really flaking bad, didn't do the bike justice compared to how nice it looks, the original 32 hole mohawk hubs, sealed bearings, hallow axles are in really good shape. I stripped the chrome, had them powdered satin black, but I'm not happy with how they look. I'll try and get a few pics of the rims posted, they gotta be Araya super 7's or Araya RB17's, or as Coletrickle said Weinmanns. They would be the same as GT for that year, correct?

That is a 1995 Robinson pro that somebody put 1996 Decals on and i don't know about a 1995 but im pretty sure they didn't come with weinmann and 1996 came with Weinmann wheels and GT Hubs. 1996 is the year they started being made in taiwan. Your frame probably has the welded patch right? and the half loop meets up at the back of the frame?  its a 1995.

1996 would have no Robinson stamp in the frame, no patch,SN would NOT be on Droupouts and the half loop tail wouldn't meet up.

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

Yes, it has the welded Patch, and the rear loop meets the back of the frame, with full welds. My brother bought this bike brand new, he just found the receipt and gave it to me, he paid $599.00 for this bike in 1995 and they thru in the flight pads at no charge!LOL,  I can tell you the stickers he said are original, he never put different stickers on it, and all I did was replace the fork stickers with some I found on ebay. Everything else on this bike is the way it came when he bought it brand new ( I put new grips), the original clear grips were so gummy and sticky you couldn't put your hands on them. The chain, the brakes, the brake cable, etc, all OG. My brother replaced the rear tire at one point with a Cheng Shin Comp III, but it still has the original GT front tire. Maybe it's a late 95 and they put the 96 stickers on it at the factory? That's the only thing I can think of. Either way, it's a really clean survivor that's been in the family since it was new, and it will remain inh the family. Maybe I will give it back to my brother when I get the rims done. At this point I might put a set of chrome Arya Super 7's or Araya RB17's.

Thanks for all the input.

A few of the stickers are in the wrong spots so somebody did change them at some point and these are the stickers it should have http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/robinson/13196#.URVpXe-9Kc0.

I have a 95 Pro XL Team Model with the stickers still on it and a couple of 1996 Robbies.

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

Interesting, I did put new replacement fork stickers on it, looks like i put them on a little to high, but maybe my brother did change the stickers, maybe he liked the 96 style better!

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

There's no way that 95 would've come with 1996 grips and stickers.

The bars are correct and back then you could buy the GT clear grips(although they just turned gummy and yellow) so maybe he just bought a pair an forgot.

What's the sticker on the bottom tube near the crank? And what's the sticker on the top tube in from rod the crank?

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

I talked to my brother again, gave he said it came with the stickers that are on it in 1996, the receipt he gave me also says 96 Robinson Pro XL, $499.99,( I thought it had said $599.99). Yes, he said it came with the clear GT grips, when I put new grips on it the stickers were ruined under the clear grips, so I removed them. The sticker by the cranks says to please read your manual etc... before riding this bike. The sticker on the top tube by the seat is a old Skateboard sticker "bones" that my brother put on the bike when he was riding it, so I left it on it, thought it was cool to leave it there. Could this be a 1996 made in USA right before they went overseas? This would explain the 96 decals? Thoughts? I don't no much about mid school, it's after my bmx time, but now I have this Robinson, and I just completed a 1993 S&M Holmes, mid school bikes ride really nice! Now onto my 1980 Proline!

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

Part of me wants to replace all the stickers with "95" style, but then again, my  brother is telling me these stickers are what came on the bike, and all parts on it are original, all GT. Confusing!

it may have been right before they went overseas but I couldn't tell you. I wish somebody would chime in.

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

There seems to be an issue with my 1995-1996 Robinson, and we haven't been able to clear it up yet. The bike was purchased new by my brother in 1996, the original receipt states 1996 Robinson Pro XL. It's being called a 1995 by the museum, but it is a USA made Robinson, has the welded tag on the down tube that says made in USA, it came with clear grips with decals under the grips, I removed because they were all sticky and gummy, my brotyher did not treplace the decals, although people are saying it should have the earlier decals on it, but these are the decals that came on the bike, I have replaced a few that were scratched prettybad, found them overseas. I just came accross another Robinson on ebay, listed as a made in USA 1996, with the same decals as mine. I guess maybe they did a limited run of 1996's, made in the USA, with these decals, prior to going overseas. I posted earlier, part of me wants to put the older 1995 decals on it, but, it came with these, so I'm having a hard time replacing the whole decal pack. Anyways, just thought it was interesting to find another frame withthe same decals listed as a 1996 USA made, the seller also had the forks listed seperately.

Re: 1996 Robinson Pro

I guess yours is one of the last USA made ones and the one on the pic is Taiwan made.
