Re: 1987 Raleigh Shock
KMC has the Z410 chain in white - the bike came with a yellow chain stock from Raleigh - KMC, no less! Your bike is wikked awesome - Pretty good find considering it's relatively rare and almost 20 years old!

Re: 1987 Raleigh Shock
ya I know it had yellow cabels and grips, an chain. but the only yellow on frame is the leter R . it just looks off in yellow with so much white and blue on frame.as for rare I have hade three befor this one and theres 7 in the museum not counting mine so dont now there that rare!!. thay look cool but suck for freestyle the kick tale is welded in way to high.when you stand on platform its like wearing high heal shoes way off balance. my first 1 I cut and digrined the kick tale off that was in the 80's. # 2and #3 I took the kick tale off reweled it lower was way better. then I could deside when to use it or not. that was 1990's some time. this one saw it just had to get it. it was way to clean to pass up.

Re: 1987 Raleigh Shock
Funny how you mentioned cutting off the kick tail....my buddy did the same thing to his in the early 90's to try to pass it off as a Master.I told him he was a retard for doing so.This Raleigh never got the street cred it deserved....I personally think they are incredibly sweet.

Re: 1987 Raleigh Shock
I actually rode on the Raleigh Freestyle Team. My mom's basement at the time looked like a Raleigh warehouse with all the parts we had. I went through dozens of Shocks, they're really not good for freestyle. I rode flatland and did blow many people away who rode superior Haro, Redline, and GT bikes. The biggest problem I had with the Shock is the steel forks. Spent many frustrating afternoons slamming the front end against a brick wall to get the fork-rake in the correct angle, as it would always bend. Not to mention every single component needed to be replaced to do some serious flatland.
The one pictured is a better frame. some of the frames with the little 80's style techno cut-out on the gusset of the front triangle had a serious engineering flaw. We worked with Raleigh till they came up with a design that worked.
When the Hyper-Shock came out, it was the shiz-nit. We loved that! Still, 90% of the components needed to be replaced for some serious flatland. That was typical for any bike in the price range though.
where we lived Raleigh got serious street credit. People thought they were the best because myself, and the people I rode with all rode Raleigh Shocks, Ultra Shocks, and Finally the Hyper Shock. My buddy had a full factory sponsorship from Raleigh.
Nice bike though. Brings back some memories.
EDIT: do not cut off the kick-tail! I talked to one of the engineers about it once. He told my that it was also to add support to the rear triangle.
