Bad news, folks. I don't think we'll be able to pull of the 3rd annual Crosstown Classic ride this year because the only two possible dates would be WEDNESDAY, June 12th or WEDNESDAY, August 14th! I don't think that will work very well for most people. However, that does present us with an opportunity to do an alernate ride of some sort, and I need your input.

Some things I think riders have liked most about the Classic are the laid-back, no pressure pace, the inclusion of street riding which allows for some fantastic sightseeing and people watching, and the stop at Navy Pier for chow. For my part, I'd like to include these elements in whatever alternate ride we come up with, so here are some possibilities that have popped in my head:

1. A North Side to South Side ride where we set up a meeting point and a destination (not unlike going from Wrigley Field to US Cell or vise-versa);
2. A Lakefront to West Side ride that has us start up north, stop for grub at Navy Pier (or someplace else), then head west -- or vise-versa;
3. A horseshoe-shaped route that either has us start and end north or start and end south.

These are just my ideas based off of the framework laid down with the first two Classics, and I am open to other ideas. I'm also thinking about a pub crawl, but I think that would be pretty hard to do considering bike security and stuff. Another thought is to scrap the idea of our own ride, and instead roll DEEEEEEP on a Critical Mass ride on the last Friday of one of the summer months. I know it's a bit early, but with local and greater Midwest membership on the rise and visitors from out of town already expressing interest in rolling with 44T on its marquis ride, it's only fair to them that we give them some sense of what they can look forward to so that they can plan accordingly. Let's put our heads together and come up with some good ideas as to how we can make this happen. Thanks!

Maybe a sort of "sight seeing" tour for all the out of towners or people who haven't been downtown in a while, where you map out some popular city spots (Wrigley,Picasso,Oak St Beach,Navy Pier Etc.) & get pictures of the whole group at each one? Just a thought, sounds cool to me even if it's touristy to some of the locals!

Boys, I'll tell you what -- I know that along with the D-Town boys, one Canadian (Coco from Saskatchewan) plans to make it in sometime this summer. I want to be able to include as many people as possible in whatever we decide to do, so stay tuned...

Maaaaaan, that picture truly warms my heart! The best friend I ever had, Luther, was put down back in 2011 due to a combination of my neighbor and mother-in-law making a grave mistake and him doing his job, and I miss him terribly and think about him every day. My friend, you and your dog are all right with me. Thanks for posting, and I hope to meet you at the Crown Point show and/or at a 44T ride this year.

Well, if the consensus is to run the Classic with only one game in town, I'm all for it! Let's hear a few more people, and if that's what we decide upon, I'll request that the thread be locked. Then expect a new Classic thread to be posted a month or so in advance of the ride. Thanks for chiming in, fellas!
