1992 Haro Ground Master
1992 Haro Ground Master
Hardest. Build. Ever.
Three years, several false-starts and a couple of nervous breakdowns have passed during this build, which began with a badly-rusted boat anchor I saved from the scrap bin for $28. Restoring the frame was a waking nightmare; a photographic history of its evolution is detailed here if anyone wants a laugh. Decals took two years - and I get impatient waiting for microwave popcorn. So many parts have been brought back from the dead (I'll add more photos in the comments) it seemed easiest to just chrome the lot, so every single piece and sub-assembly has been show-chromed except the cranks - I've never seen embossed Technique cranks before so I didn't want to risk losing the logo in the plating process. Instead, they've been polished by a jeweller. The pink paint and decal ink were digitally matched from the tyres to get the colour scheme as uniform as possible. Some parts might change in future, but I wanted to put it up to show that no bike is unsaveable, no matter how far-gone it may seem.
Thanks to bullseyejunkie for finding the unfindable, FROFF for decal artwork and assistance, joe6187 for pedal caps, chromey for advice and encouragement and all the bmxmuseum.com members who helped out with parts or words of encouragement over the years - I hope you guys like her.
Lastly, I'd like to dedicate this build to the memory my oldest friend Damian Rosso. The pink Pool Comps were a birthday present from him, and they unlocked the colour scheme and became the backbone of this build. Hope you can see it from up there, brother - this one's for you.

Re: 1992 Haro Ground Master
Thanks for the comments, guys.
These bikes are built mostly in a vacuum of non-BMX aficionados, so it's nice to receive some positive comments for a change ![]()
A few more photos which hopefully show off what can be achieved with a bit of persistence and good advice. For any info on the work pictured, feel free to PM me.
The photo of the cranks is awful, but it's the only one which shows the embossing of the Technique logo.. it's proven very tricky to capture.
Lastly, a couple shots which show the bike off in a different way because I'm a shocking photographer and the pink is a different colour in every photo.

Holding back tears
I remember this from the early stages, and all the frustration along with it. It makes me so happy to know that true perseverance concurs all. She is a pure beauty, and I hope she brings you as many years of joy as years of labor.

Re: 1992 Haro Ground Master
Holy cow, I'm absolutely gobsmacked! Your build came out really beautiful man
.
I've seen a lot of pink builds on the Museum, and it's a damn difficult color to do on a build and not get carried away. Frame recovery aside (which was a masterful piece of work in itself), you've done an exceptional job on the Master, bringing just the right amount of pink in just the right places. And great attention to detail as well (cable end-crimps and 990 lock rings especially).
Crossing the finish line on this one is well worth it I think ![]()

Re: 1992 Haro Ground Master
Thanks everyone for the kind words.
I've been humbled by the response and feel lucky and grateful to receive such feedback - what a great hobby this is. ![]()
Also, it makes a welcome change from the usual, "Aren't you a bit old for BMX?" or "Two hundred bucks for tyres you can't ride on!?" or any one of a hundred other remarks we've all heard a million times.
Cheers to all, can't wait to share the next build with you guys.
