This thread is for the Old School / New School Hybrids!

Have you ever felt, or been told, that your bike doesn't belong here? Perhaps it's not NEW SCHOOL or OLD SCHOOL enough. Well this is your thread. Please feel free to post pictures, comments, & questions on any odd ball, Hybrid, or half breed style bikes. Perhaps you have an old school frame built up with new school parts. Or perhaps you have a new school frame with old school parts. It doesn't matter. Feel safe and secure knowing that on this thread you will not be hated. In fact that is the ONE, and ONLY, rule I ask for this thread. NO HATING. Here you can show off whatever creation you have to show and the only input you should get is positive!

Re: This thread is for the Old School / New School Hybrids!

Over the past few years I've taken a few old school frames and put new school twists to them. Here are two of them:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/dyno/63565

I decided to take the Dyno frame that I love and make it with all new school parts just like my daily rider, seat low and all. So now I have a new daily rider as pictured. I did the ole 1" to 1 1/8" threadless trick and put on a pair of KHE Swiss Miss bars, lowered Odyssey seat, and added a few other cool parts  like teal Odyssey Hazard wheels and blue walled tires to match the blue of the '87 decals.

A-Headset Stem Cap
Colony Pedals
Dia-Compe Tech 77 Levers
Dyno Dig Its Pegs
Eastern 3 Piece Crank Arms
Ezra Sprocket
GT Show Forks
KHE SwissMiss Bars
Odi Longneck Grips
Odyssey 1st Generation Rotor System
Odyssey Hazard Rims
Odyssey London Mod
Odyssey Seat
Primo Son Of A Bomb Hubs
Tektro FX-15 Brakes
Vise Blue Walled Tires

Looking forward to seeing your bike posted here when done. Surprisingly the GT Show forks are not all that heavy. Not as light as say a pair of KHE Tanaka's. But overall the bike is pretty light.  smile

Besides, anyone can put down some $ and put together a new school bike. It takes skill to resurrect an old school bike with flare!

Building this Homeless Mack SL, mostly '93, except the Hubs are 1st gen steel axled Phils (1979). Sneeked a Tuf-neck spc in on it, as well as a dirt skirt.  Switched the viscount seat out for an Oddy Z77 though.

that black and blue dyno is wicked. I will never understand the slammed seat....but the bike and the coloured wheels and decals work very nicely.

Very nice stuff guys. All of it.

Slammed seat? I didn't get it either until I tried to learn the hang five. For me it has something to do with short legs! - lol

Re: This thread is for the Old School / New School Hybrids!

My fave Performer ever. Nice. Day-Glo brown? lol

I'll play too. I did this '81 Powerlite with mostly old-school hard parts and Chop wear items - sealed headset and bb, kmc chain, butted spokes and alloy nips, Ame cam repops, Aitkin redwalls, and a custom cf seatpost. Check the seat; almost bailed when I lost the front on some ice a couple of weeks ago. at least I didn't end up digging cf splinters out of my poopchute.

http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh486/Farmboy182/powerlite_zpsb0e9edd9.jpg

However, the Powerlite deserves much better, so I swapped most of the parts over to this '86 GT, it had a few issues I was able to fix and is, so far, a real nice beater/ice/salt/lakejumper. The redwalls will go back on in the spring.

http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh486/Farmboy182/gt3_zps722a5a0a.jpg

Note the Persons seat, sucks about the Viscount aero. That chrome seat post lasted one ride, it was a generic 10 buck item, I bent it with just my weight riding on the street, the cf post is back on now. I love that I'm using a bunch of crap parts I had laying around..

I'm not. I used a new 1 1/8" fork, complete threadless set up. See the restoration thread.

My bike rides so much better with the modern front end. The feel is way more solid and less rake makes the handling tighter.
