I'm finished with group 1 stems or anything thats not forged

I put a generic(or what I thought to be) Suntour styled stem I had on my Diamondback as a kid on my Haro Master rider. I rode with it for a while and then decided to upgrade to a Haro Group 1 stem. While doing variations of Tailwhips my stem quil came loose. I read on the Forums where many riders that had the Group 1 stems were complaining about the same problem. I went and looked at the old stem I had on previously and noticed there is a weld seam around the quil and it says 'Forged"on the bottom of it. Lets just say it's going back on my Master. I guess it wasn't a cheap stem afterall. I should have kept it on.

I also noticed that my other Haro stem that was on an 89 Master also has a loose stem quill. I took the Group 1 to a machine shop and their gonna try and fix it but for now on I'm only gonna put forged stems on my riders.

Re: I'm finished with group 1 stems or anything thats not forged

I have a group one stem that pulled off the quill when I was disassembling the bike! The quill was snug in the fork but not stuck by any means and while working it off...the stem popped off the quill and fork. Not sure why these stems command such high prices....but I HOPE they are being used for show only

If the two Haro stems I have can get fixed thats what I'm gonna do with them. Put them on my two show builds.

I would suggest that like other things in the world of collecting the stems had a good chance of being thrown out due to the problems they had, which makes them a little harder to find; therefore commanding a higher price.....just my nonsense worth.
