1987 Schwinn Yo Scooter

Yo, Yo, Yo!

The "Yo" was Schwinn's base model bmx scooter, It had 12" wheels, fewer components and is the little brother to the larger 14 "Yo Deluxe".

These "Yo" scoots are by far the stoutest of the late 80's scooters, and with a 4130 frame the weight actually isn't an issue. Like Mongoose and their miniscoot series, Schwinn used many of the same parts on the "Yo" scooter series that they were using on their freestyle bikes of the time. The components are all top notch on the "Yo" series including 980 freestyle front breaks and dia-comp center-pull in the rear. Unlike the "Yo Deluxe" the standard "Yo" lacked an ACS Stem and rotor system as well as threaded spinner peg holes in the forks.
Parts not original on this build include NOS Schwinn tires, skyway tuff pads, brake lines, 4 NOS Skyway pegs as well as the addition of a NOS stem and ACS rotor system.

Re: 1987 Schwinn Yo Scooter

Always did like the 80s scooters. I had some off brand one when I was 7. All I remember is it was from Toys R Us, and the deck was white with paint blotch design. Looked like painball gun shots.

WANTING!!!!- Hutch freestyle parts and Sunday or Odyssey Orange Soda stem. Also an 80's GT Zoot Scoot, 87-88 GT PFT frame or frameset and a Sunday Aaron Ross Pro (or Funday) Watermelon Green complete. Always up to trade and make a new friend. THANKS!!!!! Sunday, GT, Auburn, and Hutch are my favs.

Sounds like you might have had a Team Cycle "Curb Cruiser" or something similar, allot of the off brand scoots were the exact same thing just re-branded. I actually have a blue Curb Cruiser, Its pretty heavy and feels really cheap to ride compared to the name brand models of the era but It looks awesome!

man, nice job.  i remember these in the store when I picked up my free form when I was 11.  I came across a "free spirit" scooter the other day in a shed.  nothing nice like the schwinn, mongoose or general scoots.  but I may just do something with it after seeing yours.  very nice.

Re: 1987 Schwinn Yo Scooter

I just scored a rusted out Variflex Strada scooter that I decided to take on as a project.  Problem is...I am no longer 5' tall and I have to crouch to ride it.  Can anyone think of a remedy for this without chopping and welding?

Find a schwinn yo delux scoot or mongoose miniscoot pro project, the yo and miniscoot pro have 12inch wheels, stronger and larger frames and handlebars that make em tall enough for an average sized adult rider. The department store scoots will be far shorter and downright uncomfortable to ride for an adult no mater what you do to it. I would fix the veriflex up, hang it up and display it!

OR, if you can find one, anywhere ... the 16" Peregrine Perfectionist might have been the largest freestyle scooter. frame looked ultra-stout. i have not seen one for sale anywhere, anytime --  since about ... 1988.

Funny, i saw you said the peregrine waldo(before the edit) and i was going to have to step in......lol

Anybody got some GameCast games i can borrow?  tongue

The 16" Peregrine was called the Rang a Tang.  The Perfectionist was the 14" model.

RiverCity, I agree the Yo is plenty tall and comfortable to ride.  smile  Yours look nice and clean.
