I think my kid needs a bigger bike!

So, not too long ago I pick up a Fit 18" for my eldest. I spend a little $$ making it nice w/Profile and Madera parts. We are riding around our place the other day, and now he looks like a freaking giant on it!

9 years old, 4' 9' tall, and the bike looks too small. I was hoping he'd get at least 2 years out of this thing, looks like I'll be looking for another bike for him.

Wife will not be pleased! tongue

That pic was from a couple of months ago. I need a pic of him riding it to really show how big he looks on it.

Re: I think my kid needs a bigger bike!

Should be able to switch some parts over? Its all in how it feels to him, if he is still comfortable leave it be. But if its bothering him time to upgrade.

yes on bigger bars, maybe 7.75 rise or 8 rise but 8 might be pushing it wink

That's cool if y'all want a bigger bike... but IMO, that 18" doesn't look too small.

It is uncut just for that reason! He isn't doing tail whips so height isn't an issue! tongue

Re: I think my kid needs a bigger bike!

Now have him take a picture of you on your 20".

Betcha it doesn't look much different. smile

My son rode his 18" until he was 12. He is over 5 feet tall.

Re: I think my kid needs a bigger bike!

This is why I haven't boutght any 18 inch bikes for my kids.  Heck I didn't even have a 16 inch bike as a kid.  Straight from the tricycle to a 20 inch.
Anyways, if he's hitting his knees on the bars or doesn't feel right to him after seatpost and handlebar changes, then yep get him a 20 inch.

Looking for 1988 Haro Group 1 RS1, RS2, and RS4 frame and forks.  Straight top bar.  Late build 87 serial numbers okay only with original 88 color schemes.

Re: I think my kid needs a bigger bike!

It might be a little bit small, but he's at an awkward size.

If it had a longer top tube I bet he'd look like we do on 20".

Does he "ride" or just pedal around?  If you put him on a 20", he's going to have more problems controlling it.  I'd get bigger bars, maybe straighten them up a little and let him go a bit longer.

If he just pedals around, then go up to a 20".

Put some taller bars on there and see of that helps before spending the money on a new bike.

Kids grow way too fast, he needs at least a 20" bike.
