1986 GT World Tour
1986 GT World Tour
OG World Tour
Here is an 86 World Tour we came across. The kid said his aunt had it in the trash in New Jersey he brought it with him to Florida and now it's a part of the Rich&Rays "OG Classic Collection". All OG from the grips to the tires the only thing missing is the decals. Ride on...

Re: 1986 GT World Tour
The kid I bought it from pulled the stickers off cause he was attempting to repaint it and said they were World Tour. What would be the deciding factor?

Re: 1986 GT World Tour
So he got to the most important stickers first. I dnt understand why the vin#'s dnt hv an indication of which GT model it is. I got a frame now with no stickers and not sure which ones to go with.

Re: 1986 GT World Tour
Mid-86 they started using the PFT name. Before that it was PWT. All 1986 4130 Pro Performer/Pro World Tour/Pro Freestyle Tour framesets are identical. Only difference in bikes was parts/decals. The entry level "performer" was not stamped 4130 (because it was trimoly), thought it looks almost identical to the 4130 frames.

mmm, that could be true, but not definitive. I have a Japanese Pro Performer with dual cable guides. ALso have an american Pro Performer with dual cable guides. Both 86.
And a 3 hole dropout that is'n' "notched" like 84-85? that's just odd. I've never seen that before. Actually I've never seen a 3 hole dropout on anything past early '85. My USA made 86 has 4 holes. GT was so confusing back then!
All that said, the only thing that makes one a pro performer vs a World Tour, is decals and parts.

Re: 1986 GT World Tour
It has one brake guide and 3 holes and is early 86. I honestly dont care either way because I don't plan on selling it just need to buy the correct decals. It had World Tour decals "originally" so that is what I plan on going with unless someone can tell me why it's not. Thanks for the input.

Re: 1986 GT World Tour
Great bike and great information in this thread. GT did so much weird stuff back then between US, Japan and all the different factories.
Please let me know if I owe you feedback. Seriously, PM me with a reminder.

Re: 1986 GT World Tour
That's your answer. If it had World Tour decals, then it's a World Tour. The parts support this too. The Frame/Fork, dropout holes etc. have absolutely nothing to do with what model it is (PWT vs. PP). Gyro must have been added later, or by the bike shop. GT did not include a Gyro as standard on any bike until '87 (at least not in their catalogs/ads).
from the 86 catalog...
