Found out some cool news last night. Kinda.....
The bike thief in our neighborhood growing up stole hundreds and hundreds of bikes all over town. This guy would not stop at nothing. He stole 3 bikes from one of my buddies that told me the story last night.
Well this dude went missing for a long time when a bunch of us were waiting to hear from the cops to get the bikes back. We never heard anything about it again. My buddy Greg told me that he talked to him the other day and the guy has a good job/not a thief , good dad and blah blah blah.
Anyway , come to find out he was caught riding what he claims was his best bike. A vector loaded to the gills.
They gave him 18 months so I guess that helped stop a thief but.........................
Wonder why the cops never lets us know about the bikes being recovered? Police auctions?

Police don't care unless you have the serial number.
I leave my bikes in the rain!

Well some of the five-o who do recover bikes do advise the victims. The serial numbers is not always necessary as long as u can identify ur bike stickers, marking etc.

Most of us had all of them registered at the police station.
They made no attempt at all to let us know.
We're talking rooms and a basement full of bikes and parts.

Was this recent? Is there a chance he still has the stuff?
If the police confiscated it, it's probably all gone now.
If he's not insane, pay him a visit, sounds like he NOW has something to lose, and may come clean.

This was in the 80's. He told my buddy he didn't have any bike stuff and doesn't mess with them anymore.

Our local police auctions are within the year. So bikes recovered and not claimed go up for auction every year. A few years back I got 4 Schwinn Predators in one ($5) bid. What are the odds that 4 vintage bikes of the same model were all recovered.....

bummer, probably best to stay away now so you don't do something you may regret, as there seems to be nothing to gain.
Cool to dream though.....
I still look at my friends old house every trash day to see if my Panda elite I left there in 86/87 shows up.
He no longer lives there, it probably got trashed when we didn't care about bikes anymore and he moved.

Police Auctions are the bomb!!!! Pallets of bikes for 10 bucks cause one of the 15 is what you want be it crupi pedals, or rare stem...
I would take the extra bike from the pallet and use them to make completes or go buy tubes if that's all they needed and donated them to all to a battered women's shelter. Gave over 100 bikes in the 3 years I was in AZ. Kids who come there loose everything usually, so when they go there they had a bike, and when they left if they could take it it was there's. Did enough F'D up stuff in my early years, it was a way to be a better person, and I think every kid deserves a bike no matter the situation.
Bummed Brackett for the semi meh news.
