Re: skyway mountain bike ?

Did they actually make them....or did Skyway just put their name on them ?

Re: skyway mountain bike ?

It was part of their 1987 bike lineup along with their 300TA, 280TA, StreetBeat, Street Styler, and Street Scene bikes.
Skyway never made a frame, or bike, in house. Those were always made under contract from another company. Skyway only makes wheels in their factory.

Re: skyway mountain bike ?

Wow, 1987,I guess it was what it was for the day. Hard to remember how weak and tanklike MB's were in those days, but I am reminded by looking at that boat anchor lol.

Do you know who made their frames for them?

I what way were the old MTBs heavy and weak? Why did skyway even make a MTB anyway? Just to have another product?

Re: skyway mountain bike ?

Skyway has a local MTB history here in Nor Cal they started the "Lemurian MTB Race" bitd and the race has been held every year for about 25 years. I scored this one for $40 like new. I then bought some mini EZ bars from Ed coincidentally they have the same paint and decals as the bike itself. Its a pretty comfortable ride the way its set up with those bars even though it looks kind of goofy. The bike has great components, Arayas, roller cam brakes on the rear and sun tour pedals. Its a bullet proof ol trail bike and actually not too heavy. Pretty fun to ride too! I raced it in the 2011 Lemurian and didnt do too badly, in the top 50% Really got some funny looks tho there wasnt a single other OS MTB much less a freaky ride like this one lol

Re: skyway mountain bike ?

Yep, good question about the 26-inch mags...are they common? I know eBay has knockoffs, but I don't recall seeing the real things. Cool bike nonetheless!

Its a bumpy ride for sure, the short course I raced was 4 miles up, 4 miles down and since I've never owned a modern MTB with full suspension and disc brakes I dont really have anything to compare it to. I mainly did it for the challenge and also for the irony...racing the Lemurian on a Lemurian lol

From what I have been told from the dudes at Skyway they have never produced a bigger wheel than a 24" due to strength and weight limitations.
