mitsubishi vs tioga comp tires

Really what is the difference?  Did Mitsubishi manufacture the tires for Tioga?

I used Tioga's back in the day and loved them.  Great tires.  Can't afford them now because they are stupid expensive for NOS.

However, getting back into bikes and looking through all this OS "stuff" it seems that Mitsubishi tires and Tioga tires are very much alike (dare I say the same?!?!).

So what gives?  Can somebody school me on this?

Thanks!

Re: mitsubishi vs tioga comp tires

I remember my originals had Mitsuboshi on the side.  Don't think they said Tioga, anywhere.  But, that was 83-85ish.  Did Tioga buy out Mitsuboshi?

I have some COMP ST's that have Mitsubishi on them.  Look just like tiogas.  Also, on eBay, I always notice that they advertise "TIOGA" tire sets, but they don't say Tioga on them.  So what gives?

Anyone?

Re: mitsubishi vs tioga comp tires

First, it's Mitsuboshi, not Mitsubishi...two different companies (very common mistake...especially on Ebay).  My understanding of the history is that Tioga was a design company and Mitsuboshi was a tire manufacturer.  They started collaborating together at some point...I guess around the earlier Comp tires.  I am not sure what happened between the two (merger or takeover I guess) but eventually Tioga just starting branding them all and continues making tires to this day.

Sho'nuff!  Mitsuboshi!

Thanks for the info.  I was just trying to figure out if they are one and the same.

Dude, I just noticed you have Hot Dog the movie as your avatar.  Nice.  I love 80's ski movies.  Ski School with Dean Cameraon was my favorite "To be the best, you must lose your mind...".

I grew up on skis and it was always one of my favorites.  I am big 80's movie fan...love your avatar as well.  I have one of those shirts I wear riding regularly.

I have been in Florida for almost 20 years now so not much skiing anymore...still watch the movie 2-3 times a year though!  lol

Too funny!  Whenever I see them on TV i stop and watch them.  I think the last really good Ski movie I liked was OUT COLD.  I thought they did a good job.  Had some of the 80's feel to it.  I think Hot Tub Time Machine broached the genre, but wasn't a true SKI movie.  I started skiing in my early 20's and loved it.  Try to get out every few years.  I am terrible and a menace to the mtn.  But I have a good time.  Learned to snowboard in February of last year (did 3 mtn's in 5 days).  About killed myself, bruised my tailbone, cracked a rib and flew home.  It was awesome!!!  Had a complete blast.

Never tried snowboarding...I could never get out to ski enough so I never had a time. I loved Hot Tub Machine...the combo of the music, John Cusack and skiing was too cool.  I think Hot Dog is on Netflix instant right now....

I am watching it tonight!!!  Cusack rules!  I don't think that dude gets enough credit.  And yeah, the mesh of music, atmosphere and script made that a great flick.  Sort of Cusack's 2nd ski type movie (Remember the K12 in Better Of Dead?).  "This is pure snow! It's everywhere! Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?"

My wife's favorite movie...she is big Cusack fan.  We watch that one a couple times a year as well.   Actually a pretty good Christmas movie...might have to throw that in this weekend.  lol

So is it safe to say if you have COMP ST's with Mitsuboshi on the inside, you are running Tioga's??
