So I think the powdercoater lost the end caps to my DXs!
I brought in my Shimano DX pedals to get coated, and when I got them back, the plastic end caps to them were missing! ![]()
I went back there, and the guy was like, "Are they replaceable?" I said, "Yeah, but these were 29 years old!"
He got my number and is looking for them, but that was this morning, his shop is not that big.
Way to F** up my birthday also!! ![]()

What kind of dummy doesn't take his parts apart BEFORE dropping them off?

I brought them to the guy and asked him if I needed to take them apart. He said, "No, not a problem, I'll do it"
I showed him how to unscrew the cap also. Young kid, think it was his first day, or he knew nothing about Old School. ![]()

Re: So I think the powdercoater lost the end caps to my DXs!
[sarcasm]I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot believe that some noob at a coating plant did not give a shift about your pedals/endcaps.
[/sarcasm, off]
Did you think the kid, who is probably younger than your pedals, give a shift about your parts?
Do you make it a practice to bring in whole parts/pieces/assemblies for coating/inspection/repair, hoping to pick them up complete as you left them, when the employee you left them with only cares about one thing? The money in your wallet....
If your inner self answered yes, you need to change that practice.

Re: So I think the powdercoater lost the end caps to my DXs!
When taking things to the powdercoater, I find it best to do all the prep work I can before I give it to them. Everything gets baked at around 400F, so High temp masking tape and anything that could melt should be removed. Also degrease thoroughly as the grease wicks it's way out under heat. Make the coaters job as easy as you can and you will end up with better end results.![]()

Re: So I think the powdercoater lost the end caps to my DXs!
I'd take everything apart and never leave anything with a "professional" that they do not need. I would not want him even taking my dx pedals apart. I'll guarantee he poked a hole in those caps with a screw driver to pry them off. They mostly likely lost your bearings and hardware too. You had to screw those caps off with a watch back remover. The powder coater ruined them no matter how he tried to remove them. Even if you asked him to keep them they would have been fubar unless he knew what he was doing. Still suck but you have to think.

I can buy a new set for $60 and keep the end caps.
Oh, and how AM I the dumbass, when the douche told me not to worry about it and he'd take them apart?
I know I should have been more prepared, but this company has seen MANY bike parts come through there.
You really think he baked the end caps on there? The guy may be dumb, but not blind. ![]()
