What do you do when . . .
You find a bike on Craigslist that you want, but you know the area is not the safest?
I found a decent priced 87 Haro, but the bike is located in a not so nice neighborhood. From the text messages, I doubt the owner can bring the bike and meet in a safer area, so I have the choice to either risk it or leave it. I work at the courthouse and talked to one of our former bailiffs who is from the area and he said he avoids the area. That is making me want to leave it more than risk it because I really don't want to be shot, robbed, or both. It sucks as I really want the bike, but not if there is a high risk involved.

meet at His local police dept.
Where the music stinks, and they water the drinks, at the nudie bar.
Where the girlies dance in their underpants, at the nudie bar.
Where you see their butt, and their trap stays shut, at the nudie bar.
Where you can’t touch a breast, but you can cave in a chest, at the nudie bar.
Where you look at a thigh, and blacken an eye, at the nudie bar.
Where a buck’s enough to see their stuff, at the nudie bar.
Where the breasts may be fake but man do they shake, at the nudie bar.
Where you swear like a sailor, and wish you could nail her, at the nudie bar.

you have a license to carry?
Agree with others....go with someone
Or have the dude meet you in a public place (gas station, grocery store lot etc) during the day...somewhere near his house so you dont have to give him a ride home after the purchase. ![]()
Additionally....public places often times have cameras watching!
Get there 15 -20 mins early as well. Scope out the place etc.
Be smart about it, trust your instincts...and you should be fine.

Too bad I haven't made friends with any here.

Thinking about getting Paul and maybe another of my scarier looking friends to ride with me. Police don't like it when they see a couple of white guys in this area, so that could be worse than going alone.
I should add, I am white and from Cullman, Alabama. Many people think everyone from there is born a racist as there use to be a "sign" hanging from the Welcom to Cullman sign. My tag alone can be a problem in that area due to this trivial fact. The area the bike is located is near Legion Field where Alabama used to play some of their football games. It was cleaned up for the 96 Olympics and then vacated except for a few sports events each year.

I do not. I respect guns and do not have a problem with them, but do not own one. Laws here are strict.
I am always early and overly cautious, but a pretty bike can be distracting.

I guess my only question would be, what kind of 87 Haro? I'm not sure I would do it for an FST, but a Team Master? I might have to go for it.
For sure take some peeps.
Things on my list:
Poking around for 85/86 RL 20 II Frame/Fork to restore
Dia Compe stamped White Brake Cable (rear)
Tech 7 Barrel Adjuster (only)
Black Dominator Seat/Gold Lettering (can be new, doesn't have to be OS)

There is not a Starbucks in this area.
There is a Church's chicken where there has been a lot of shootings. This is two miles from my office and there is not a good area in those two miles.
I guess my only question would be, what kind of 87 Haro? I'm not sure I would do it for an FST, but a Team Master? I might have to go for it.

Been divorced since 1999, but she may still have my balls in her purse. I think they are on her keychain.
If I could go during lunch tomorrow, it would save me a 40 mile trip on Saturday. I work with a bunch of ladies and the few guys that work in my building would be worse than taking a lady. The bailiffs I know that would ride with me won't go to that area either.
I think it would be awesome to pull up in a patrol car with one of the officers, but who knows if anyone would come out when I knocked on the door.![]()

Re: What do you do when . . .
Happens to me all the time. I picked up an 85 GT pro performer back in September. I was pretty sure I was gonna die going to get that one.
On another score, I had a guy lead me down into his basement to see the bikes. I was having horrifying images of Pulp Fiction flash through my mind
Turned out to be a great score...and no gimps.
Just watch your back, and be alert. Really, whenever you are going to meet someone about a CL purchase, you should watch your back. They know you are bringing money. I have seen people killed over sneakers.
The "meet in a public place" thing will often fail. The sellers are usually very lazy, and pretty much will sell to whoever knocks on their door with cash in hand first.
Edit: If I am ever found dead, I want you museum members to tell the cops that anyone who had posted an ad on the NYC CL selling OS bmx must be considered a suspect! ![]()

I try to get people to meet me in a public place or I take a friend. I have even taken one of my danes with me when neither of the other two were available, a 160 pound dog standing next to me is alot of intimidation.
