should i be scared?

ok, so i've rarely had any "high dollar items for sale and when i have they've all sold to buyers with multiple feedback (here and ebay)
fast forward to today. my tiki sold on ebay for 1150.00
at first i was excited, but then i looked a lil further only to find the winning bidder only has 9 transactions between 3 sellers, none of them are bmx related and none are more recent than 6months ago.
i'm definitely not shipping until the payment clears the banks and all, but does anyone have experience with this? do i have reason to be alarmed or am i just being a nervous nellie???

There's always risk selling anything online. Not much you can do about it. Just make sure its packed well, insured with signature required and it should be fine.

Re: should i be scared?

I could be wrong, but you cannot wait for payment to clear if this is an ebay transaction.  Paypal will not clear the money until the buyer gives you positive feedback, or if 30 days has gone past without feedback, you can submit proof of delivery to have the funds released.

I would not sell a 1k frame to a buyer like that.  They can eff you in many ways, and paypal/ebay (the same company) will virtually always side with the buyer.

Forgot to add;  This is the reason I only sell on the museum.  Paypal does not hold payment like they do with ebay transactions.

eBay only holds payments if you are a newer member, and have under 25 + feedback.. There is nothing to worry about as long as you pack well and get insurance..

Not true.  I am near 100 +FB...never had a single negative.  And I had funds held.  It caused me a problem, and I have never sold on ebay since.

Kid718 is correct. I have 112 Positive feedback 0 negs or neutrals on ebay and been a member since 2010. They hold my funds all the time.

That is weird. I have not had any payments held.. The eBay policy says after 25 + and no negatives no funds will be held.

Re: should i be scared?

My Paypal is though my checking and even if I had high feedback I wouldn't expect someone to ship till they get paid.   Your making the right desicion.  I won't ship till the money's in my Paypal.  There's nothing wrong with that.
Also I tell people before I dib that it will take a couple days of I don't have in my Paypal. I exspect others to do the same.

Re: should i be scared?

I have over 100 positive feedback at 100%. A little while ago I scored some stuff (non bicycle) and it was some higher priced stuff. I sold a few items for in the $200 range and a bunch at $100+. Paypal put a hold on my funds because of the sudden selling of what they called high dollar items. Ebay and Paypal can stuff it.

Re: should i be scared?

thanks for all the info guys. i havent even had a response from him yet. i know it means nothing about non bmx item vs. bmx, but i was more worried that its been over 6 months since he's bought ANY item that had feedback left. i'll definitely post my results here as it progresses.

Some people don't buy stuff all the time off of eBay.    I probably buy 1 thing a month max off of eBay,and have never sold anything on eBay.  Just don't send it out till it clears.  And if he says anything tell him the check hasn't cleared.

The problem is, you cannot "not send it out till payment clears."  Ebay only allows payment to be made via PayPal, since they owns PayPal.  And when it comes to ebay transactions, PayPal often holds the funds until the item is received.

Never sold on eBay.  That would be aggravating and I'm glad I know that now , then finding out after.  I was gonna start putting stuff on there this week.  Non Bmx. Just to unload all the shit I've collected since I bought my house.

nothing at all which is why I started wondering.  almost every time I sell on here or ebay, I get some sort of message or email.
he won it at 5;30.  i sent an invoice.  I've got or heard nothing.
I'll give it some time and if I don't hear from him by Monday night i'll email him.

TY!!
ive been wondering who or where to ask that exact question since paypal and ebay did me in last month with their " holds"
they threw me under the bus with that youve sold a lot of high dollar stuff lately, and we have to hold your money and o well release some of your money for shippin which they never did..
theres 2 guys who by all rights should already be riding the haro and the redline i " sold " and then had to refund their monies...Grr ebay.

so to reiterate,i can sell stuff here and accept paypal and Not have to wait 30 days to get the money?

ps,when i was on the phone with paypal,i pointed out the entire flaw, whereby buyer can basically keep your item, get his money back, and leave you with nothing but fees just by saying somethings wrong with item.
they said,and i quote..o that doesnt happen often...roll

Re: should i be scared?

I am just curious, do any of you have a bank account and/or a credit card tied to your Paypal account? I have been on Ebay since 2008, and have never had a hold of any type placed against me. I do have a credit card and bank account tied to my Paypal though. Every time I sell, I print a shipper, pay the fees, and transfer to my bank with never an issue. Maybe I am just lucky? smile

I have a bank account and cc attached to my PayPal account.  I have never once had a negative, nor have I ever had a claim opened against me.  Out of nowhere, they started holding my funds.  It seemed completely random.  Some transactions would be normal, and then they would hold funds.  Eventually, they jammed me up financially, so I no longer sell on eBay.

And Maddmaxivan, that is correct.  PayPal will not hold you funds for a museum transaction.  Only for eBay transactions.
