6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
Just curious to see what you guys ride for late mid/new school set up's?
tt, crank & stem length, bar height and width.
I know it's all a matter of preference, just want to see if there is similarities between one another.
Pics are always nice too ![]()

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
I'm 6'5" and I have to have at least a 21" TT. I like 21.25 best.
180mm cranks. Always!
Bars have to be at least 28" wide but prefer the 29-30" range. I try to keep the inner flanges of my grips about the same distance.
If I'm using a front load stem I like 9" bars.
With a top load stem I can use 8" bars but use more spacers. Less spacers with 8.5" bars. So far, my favorites are S&M Hoders.
I also like my stems to be 53-55mm. ![]()

Pretty much any of those, but im more partial to street riding.
here's the deal, im looking to build up a new rider this winter.
I have a Metal "burma" frame (at least im 99% sure thats what it is) it's a 21.25" tt which is nice,
but i was contemplating on a NS bike, you know, integrated hs, mid bb etc...
im not sure if it would be worth buying a newer used or just build up what i have.

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
I have a 22 tt race bike, s&m 57? mm stem and perfect 10's.
I found the 28x8 bars too small but he 30x10 a bit big, like next to no sweep back or up. Might look for some 29x9 ![]()
Also I 180mm on my 20 inch and 175mm on my 24 inch, both race bikes. Prefer the shorter ones. Run 165 or 170 on the velodrome depending on event.
I am 195cm, I think thats 6 foot 5 inches. Used to ride a standard sta, was so short now I think about it, had skinny s&m butler bars too. For what it's worth, only race now on bmx bikes or cruise the beach etc.
I'll add one more thing, since building a crupi expert for my son, I have bike envy and my eye on a xxl 20 inch crupi in candy red. Just fighting the urge to totally spend any more this December.

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
I used to be 6' until I got old. Now, I'm 5'11".
I'm riding a Badd Cruiser with a 21.5 tt. Not a big fan of huge bikes. I had an OM Flyer with I think a 23" tt & I felt awkward.
50mm stem. I don't like super long stems.
27x5 1/2" bars (I would have preferred at least 28")
180mm cranks. I'm currently running Odyssey 1pc cranks, but for serious riding/racing, Flights. Unfortunately, they don't make em in 185mm any more.

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
Hey, thanks for all the replies! it's cool to see what other guys ride and how you set them up.
Heres another question, has anyone physically weighed a late mid school frame with cups installed
compared to a brand new or couple year old NS frame all integrated hs,bb,sc?
just wondering if there is a significant difference in weight or just separated by ounces?? ![]()

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
weight of those depends on the era of "mid school". Most of those bikes from mid/late 90's and early part of this century were pigs. 6, 7, 8lb frames... New school will be 5 or less (chromoly). I'm 6'1" and ride a 21.25 frame with 8x28 bars, 175 cranks (this is for dirt/park. I run 180's on race bikes).
If it's got two wheels, jump it.

Im 6'2" and always rode 21" toptubes and switched to 21.5" last year and decided I like 21" better and going back! I like just 8" x 26.5"bars and a front load stem and keep my trail/street bike pretty close to the same as my race bike!

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
I'm only 5'10" so I won't list my set up but I have 2 friends around 6'3" that both run 21.25" top tubes, 180mm cranks, 8.5" and 8.66" bars x 28" wide, 50 and 53mm topload stem reach.
there should be at least 1 pound deference between late mid school and the new stuff. everything these days is about 5 lbs.

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
Hey bmxandvw I think that they are the next bars for me. I have the same cruiser bars as yours.
Actually I have thinking of a black 22tt speedwagon cruiser and a trans red 22tt speedwagon 20 inch. Real nice quiver of bikes.
It's just the crupi aluminium frame is calling me at the moment. I have never owned a s&m, always would have liked one and finally they are nice and long. A mate just bought a black speedwagon, going with chrome bars & forks, profiles, classic late 90's look.
We are lucky there are so many good choices out there these days, even without having to go the expensive custom made small shop frame route (which is hard from australia)

Re: 6'+ Guy's...whats you're set up? Mid/New School
Stand over height is a big deal when you're large. If you have a low slung frame your seat post will be too tall by fashion standards. I ride a Native frame 21.25. Notice the larger headtube and the gap between the tubes. It's proven stronger and gives you a taller feeling frame. I ride 170 cranks because I'm fat and I bend anything larger. Gearing is 28/9 because I'm a man and 8.25 bars with top load stem. Hope any of this helps.

I'm 6'1"/225# and my "go to" bike is a 21" LTF with 180mm Profile cranks and Fit Mac bars. I also have a set of Hoders and had a set of Perfect 10s. The perfect tens were really comfortable. But I felt they were just too tall and looked stupid. When I looked at the bike all I saw were those huge bars. ![]()
