2012 Diamondback Nitrus Jr

Custom Diamondback Nitrous Junior

We started out with a $200.00 factory Black & Red Nitrus, I stripped it down and had it sand blasted and powder coated Monster Green to match his helmet that I had 6 months before I ever got him the bike. I changed everything on it except the frame, the first thing I did was the color then stickers, Answer Ti wheels, tires, seat, cranks, all sealed bearings and other small things. Since this picture was taken I have added Answer Carbon bars & Dagger forks a uni seat, sealed headset a hollow chain, and clipless pedals. I recently purchased him a Reactor Mini because this one is a tad bit big for him so i'm having the mini powder coated in the exact green with the same stickers.

Let me tell you that I really like what you did with the bike. Haven't seen a Diamondback at our local tracks in a long while. Post a pic of it with the Dagger Forks when you can. cool

All i need is mid 80s CW Racing forks.

Re: 2012 Diamondback Nitrus Jr

I actually have the dagger forks and bars ready to go on his mini after the powder coating that will look exactly the same in color as this green one so I will post it in  a week. I haven't see one single diamondback on the tracks here in San Diego, every kid has a Redline or Intense it seems so I totally went against grain and when you compare weight the DB weighs the same or less than many of them so my son stands out and sticks out!

Excellent job. The original color combo sucks.

Re: 2012 Diamondback Nitrus Jr

The original color was even worse up close I don't know why Diamonback refuses to keep up with the changing times, the original bike seemed as if it was more heavy than my son and i'll fall to my knees if I ever see them for sale at Walmart lol, I love the company well the old school Diamondback Harry Leary days that is, they were once a true rival to Redline, Haro, Mongoose "now at your local Walmart for $99.99" & GT back in the day! does anyone remember those days? Not only am I teaching my son how to race but the entire history of the sport and the guys that paved they way from the race tracks to freestyle aka flatland he's a big fan of Eddie Fiola and Martin of GT and RL and Harry and Stu Thompson.

I agree with you, I always had a soft spot for Diamond Back as the underdogs back in in the 80s. I remember one of my favorite issues of BMX plus from Aug '85- the big 6 (manufacturer) bike shootout had me wanting a Formula One, but ended up with a CW instead. As for racing bikes in current times, I give you credit for giving a DB a shot and thinking outside the box. I never see them at the greater L.A./ OC tracks.

Re: 2012 Diamondback Nitrus Jr

I agree with you as well, I have always had a soft spot for Diamond Back as the underdogs back in in the 80s too. I feel in love with a gun metal gray Harry Leary special edition in the 80's and have been hooked til this very day! We actually started a Diamondback team here in San Diego I have 4 kids right now 3 boys 1 girl that I have recruited from different tracks and got them all Diamondbacks, the bikes are in the works right now of being upgraded to None-Walmart standards and you'll be hearing about us soon. The DB bloodline & tradition must live on and will live on if I have a say about it..
