Re: lets talk ROSS

Not a bad company, just not highly sought after. I had a 1987 (well, still have) Ross Mtn bike. Shortly after that, they won a Gov. contract to make ammo boxes but that contract fell through and they went bankrupt.

Re: lets talk ROSS

They were kinda the quality of the Schwinn's. Ive only seen them in a bike shop in the 80's My brother had one and was able to crack the frame at the age of 9 at 70 lbs. They had really wide top tubes could barley get a pad on.

Re: lets talk ROSS

I have the freestyle 87 Piranha and dig it,  It's cromo and also very light.  Could be thin metal tho.  Also it's a bit short if you are a tall dude.  My take is this, people act like there was only 3 bike brands. More like 300 bike brands most likely came out of 3 factories.  They all used most of the same metals and parts.  By the mid 80's lots of companies stepped up their game and made cool stuff.  Lots of good bikes to be had.

Re: lets talk ROSS

An old neighborhood friend had an 85 Piranha, cracked 2 frames in a short time(he was 12). I did jump the bike & from what i remember, it handled alright:)

Re: lets talk ROSS

If i remeber right the tubing was thin. They would break by the welds. The welds are good the tubing would crack. Yes they handled and jumped great.

Re: lets talk ROSS

I had a Ross GT Mach One knock off back when I was 14. It was sweet. Not quite the real deal, but good enough until I got the real deal.

Ross piranha looks sweet from the pics in the museum, that's why I was asking how well they held up over time you don't see many around

Re: lets talk ROSS

I had a black and yellow snapper with tuffs on it when I was a kid. My first modern Bmx bike after my dad ran over my stingray in the driveway. 1982ish.

One of the many reasons for the bewildering and tragic character of human existence is the fact that social organization is at once necessary and fatal. Men are forever creating such organizations for their own convenience and forever finding themselves the victims of their home-made monsters.
