Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
Sup everybody! I found a bike a while back with the intent to restore it. It was in a backyard, and was being used to block a hole the owners dog had dug under a fence. The bike looked SAD.... But I noticed it had flight cranks, so I made him an offer. 20 bucks, and I fill in the hole! It's been rattle canned all over, and it may have actually protected it a bit. I will post pics soon. My main intention here is really trying to find info on the Rupe. It seems to be an elusive bike. Anyone know production numbers? Serial is J4000336.
Glad to be on the site, seems to be the place to be for re-living my youth!
BTW.... I'm not asking value! Just want to know what I have here. Thanks.

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
It's got a different size down tube I think, and super skinny rear drops. There are Rupe experts here who will be able to tell from pics.

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
Here's some pics guys. Still not sure if I want to put the money into an era-correct bike.... I just want to get this thing back to riding condition, and get rid of all that rattle can paint! So, what I have is:
F&F Eric Rupe signature edition (I think the serial # puts it at 1985, not sure though)
Flight 180mm (non-sealed BB) Redline 43T chainwheel
Shimano DX pedals
Tuf-Neck stem
Bars...????? Help on those please! No markings I can see (yet)
MX-1000 Brakes
Acs Graphite Z-Rims
Sunshine sealed hubs (still silky smooth!)
Seat clamp is Dia-Compe (?)
Seat post is unmarked
Seat is BoBo
Tires are BoBo
generic pegs, chain, and grips

Leave those stickers on! Those will be tough to replace.
If it's got two wheels, jump it.

I'm gonna try man. I haven't seen a set of Rupe stickers yet. At least not NOS, just home made.

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
Yeah...85, mine is J4000493
check for these....
Downtube bigger diameter than the top tube?
Downtube connect to the BB shell level with the bottom?
19 1/4 CC Seat/Head tube (along top tube)?
Thin rear drops ?? (thickness)
If yes to all you have a Rupe

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
The top tube and down tube look the same diameter. I think that's a regular Mongoose with a rare sticker.

The downtube is even with the BB, top tube measures 19 1/2" to the centers of the seat/head tube, and the diameters seem to be the same.

So, could a Supergoose have a serial of J4000336?

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
Sorry mate... my info above isn't correct as I was using my faded brain instead of checking my frame.
So, here it is after measuring up just now
TT and DT diameter approx 1 1/4 " ..... both the same
I would probably concur about the 19 1/2 " tt length
And the J4 means 1984, not 85.
How does the gap between ST and DT look on BB shell.... it should be larger than a standard Goose
Here's mine

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
Wow, that's sick..... Yes, our bottom brackets are the same, and the stickers on the ST match also. I'll post a close up of mine, but what seals the deal for me is the height of the seat tube above the top tube. That part sticks out like a sore thumb.
This has been a fun little mystery for me. I never did own a Goose back in the day. Had I raced more, and didn't start freestyling, I may have though. It's just a nice ass bike. I didn't realize, until this bike, that Mongoose even made a full cro-moly 20"!
I really appreciate the info, and any help on those bars of mine would be most welcome. Maybe after I start stripping paint, that will help. But there are no stamped marks that I see.
Thanks again guys.

Re: Eric Rupe found and soon to be rebuilt!
Good point on the seat tube... I'll check it against my other Geese
I cant offer anything on the bars, they are too freestylish for me and not in my genre.
Have fun with it..... clean the frame up and check it before you re-store it, it may be the start for a great survivor re-build.
