Number plate plastic?
I want to make a number plate.
Anyone know what Zeronine and old school Haro plates were made of?

Check out this history lesson on number plates http://fortyfour16.wordpress.com/2010/04/22/13/. I hope this helps with your research.

Re: Number plate plastic?
LDPE. That's it!
Ther 44 16 guy does nice work, and I don't question the value of his work, but I have an art background (and am a little stubborn). If I didn't at least give it a shot...

Re: Number plate plastic?
I am with you on trying to do everything myself first. Do you have a lead on where to purchase LDPE? If Bob Haro made them by hand BITD, I am sure anyone with some ability could duplicate the process.

McMaster Carr has it. 24x24x1/8" is about $12.
They have a location within driving distance...

Re: Number plate plastic?
Just got back from picking up a sheet from McMaster Carr
$12.
They packed it enough cardboard for me to make a couple practice templates!
Next step: make a good-looking cruiser plate.

Re: Number plate plastic?
LDPE 1/8" do not buy thinner. You can easily cut with a fresh exacto blade. It cuts like butter.

Re: Number plate plastic?
They key is FRESH.
It does not cut well with a dull razor blade...
Good thing 24"x24" is enough for 4 cruiser plates!

Re: Number plate plastic?
Any results? Are you going to heat form the upper wings? Assuming that you are going to have wings on the plate.

Re: Number plate plastic?
Yup. I used a semi-fresh box cutter, and put the plate in the oven for a couple minutes, then I zip tied it to my bars. I made a couple mistakes, but they're minor, and I have plenty of plastic.

Re: Number plate plastic?
I made a cruiser-sized Haro/Zeronine/Cam-shapes plate.
Next one, maybe a Zeronine Control Panel-inspired over the bar plate.

That was it.
Haven't done any new ones yet.
Next one is an over-the-bar plate, like a Mission Control, but not a knockoff.

The first one was done freehand.
The second one will be drawn on graph paper.
