I just recently picked up these cranks and found out that one of the end bolts was stripped to where I can't use an allen wrench to remove it the rest of the way. It is half way out but was needing any ideas on how to remove it completely. Would taking it to a machine shop and have them take it out a good idea. I was thinking about taking a dremel and squaring two sides and using a wrench to take it out the rest of the way. Any input would be appreciated.

Stick a screwdriver between it and the cranks as a pry bar. Push down (to pry it up) at the same time as trying to thread the bolt off. Then after getting the bolt out have a machine shop chase/re-thread the hole.

If your gonna replace the bolt, you could always use an ez-out. It's a kit you can pick up at any hardware store, and should cost less than $5.00! Basically what the kit comes with is a drill, and a tap. You drill a hole into the bolt, (Doesn't need to be all the way through) then you drill the tap in. Once the tap stops, it's basically locked up. Then all you do is reverse the direction of the drill, and it should come right out. Hope that helps. I had to do this on a head bolt on my car.

Is EZ out. Ask them for one. Might call it something else but they will know what you want/need. EZ out is my second suggestion.

If you have a hacksaw, cut a straight line on the head of the bolt and use a flat screw driver and tap it into the slot and turn.

The ez out will only work if the hole is deep enough for it to grab onto something. Ace or true value has them.

Well I finally got the bolt free. I first tried the bolt extractor. It was going well as I was drilling a hole into the middle of the bolt and BAM the bit broke off inside the hole. I didn't have any other drill bits that size and didn't really know how to take the broken piece off so I decided I will go ahead and try my first initial idea of squaring off the side of the bolt with a dremel and using a big crescent wrench to take it out. Well it worked like a charm. I think someone had put some loctite on the threads along time ago and tha'ts probably why the bolt was so hard to get out. I have another bolt and cup so I didnt mind cutting the bolt. By the looks of the bolt it didn't look like I stripped it out either. . Now time to clean out the inside of the spindle
