1987 General RL Osborn repair and restoration project...
So a while back during my 87 PFT build my cousin brought me his bike that had the only known parts left to my original PFT back in 87. They were the OGK performer mags, but they were on a cool bike. After help from you folks we ID'd it and now Im on a mission to build it.
How I got it:
Unfortunately the seat mast was cracked from the seat being way to high and ridden. So I contacted an old that has a metal shop and was told he could weld rather well. So I dropped off the General along with an 86 GT Pro Performer and an 88 GT Performer that needed to have the mast's repaired as well. After he saw the break on the RL he wanted to just replace the whole pipe made the key hole. So I ordered a length of 4130 and made the key hole.
The Break:

The New Mast:
So friday night he dropped off one of the GT's that he repaired. I was impressed. I cut off the old broken pipe about a half inch above the factory weld:
So now a little relieved that he is great, I couldn't wait to get the RL back. Well he dropped it off this morning:

He had to fill the area of the horseshoe as it was rotten inside the weld.
So happy with the results I am anxious to get this rolling:
This is the end result I am going for, but am having a hard time to find the correct colored decals. So if someone finds a set let me know!!!
I will update as I progress through the build!

Glad to see you're saving a General!!!
For the stickers, check out AJKBikes.com - I'm sure there's other sources, but this is the one I know of.
They have the red set for the complete bike. See if this link will work:

Keep us posted on the restoration. I'll be watching.

Those repairs look excellent, Chris. Who'd you have do them?

Thanks Dave! Dave Ferland welded them for me. He is an old friend/relative that is starting metal shop a few miles from my house in Poland.

Re: 1987 General RL Osborn repair and restoration project...
So I finally got the frame back from the PC, and its the wrong red. Its darker than discussed. It does however match the nipples so I'm running it. Let the assembly start.
Also realized the decals are not correct and the script should be white not black/ also have the wrong seat post mast decals. OFW.

nice.
Here's my OG one.

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy.

Re: 1987 General RL Osborn repair and restoration project...
Sweet RL! I searched high and low for the hustler pro decals , but only the RL Pro was available. I bought the set so the frame had some sort of dress code. Eventually someone will have the decals or files to have them made. The RL is a beauty!
Thanks for the reference guide, It perfect! For now Im using parts I have but will correct as I go.
