I HAVE A RL 22 MISSING SERIAL # AND DON'T KWOW WHY.I BELIEVE IT IS 1987 IT CAME WITH HIGHS ON THW FORKS.I SEE NO SIGN THAT THE SERIAL # BEING REMOVED.SO I THOUGH THE PROS HERE COULD HELP ME OUT SO I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH HER!!

There's alot of RL 22s out their.I beleve it to be a 87 I think that was the first year they were made in china.

Sweet frame

It is an 86 with the black bottom bracket

It came with highs on the forks too.But some 87 have highs and a black B.B.

I have never seen an 87 with either

here is another tell tale

the cable guides....if they are solid it is an 86 if they are split in the middle like a Master it is an 87

there are a couple other minor details but they are harder to explain and really unnecessary. If the BB is black, the fork pegs are high, and the cable guides are solid it is an 86

Just to clarify

All 87's have the black bottom bracket with the exception of the black model

those were black BB in 86 then chrome BB for 87 as it flows better with the decals for the black bike

Here are a couple other small details that will help you ID the year on your frame

These are characteristics of an 87 and your frame should be without

the first is a set of Weep holes in the brake bridge

check out the little yellow circles

the other is a set of weep holes in the seat stay where they meet the drop out

Hmm my '87 doesn't have Weep holes in the brake bridge,maybe they forgot? lol

Yeah that's why I waited till the end of my list of things to mention ...some 87's have it and some do not but none of the 86's had it so if they are there it's just a reinforcing detail that it is an 87 not an 86

Mine doesn't have it at the brake bridge but does have it at the seat stay at the drop out.

Your right the seat stay weeps are on both years but the brake bridge is 87 only I have the same bike and it is 100% 86

I would like to see better pics of the bottom bracket
