Powdercoating Over Chrome??????
So I have a couple frames/forks/bars I am looking to powdercoat and found a local coating business that does it for a decent price. Some of the parts are chrome and I inquired about coating them. They told me that they would have to media blast the chrome pieces for the powder to stick. Is this true?? I assumed you wouldn't need to blast them. I know I have seen frames that have been half powder and chrome. Like Haro Masters and such. So what is the concencus on this guys??? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I am sure Chip at C4 could respond with way better information. But it seems others have not had a problem powdering over chrome. That is how those candy frames/forks are done that you see popping up, as it is candy powder over chrome.

Yeah I thought there shouldn't be any need for them to blast the chrome parts.

I've gotten the same response out my way.. They say it won't stick to the chrome. Powder or paint, which from what I've seen after stripping both from various frames is complete bs.. I need to get a couple of my experts out that way though, the powder is def cheaper in clevo than out here in bula

Re: Powdercoating Over Chrome??????
you can powder directly over chrome but it won't be as durable. the blasting process creates a mechanical bond for the powder. without the mechanical bond, once the powder starts chipping or peeling it will keep flaking off.

I agree 100%! I use a Guy near me for all my powdercoating. I get a lot of things done with all my hobbies. Motorcycles, muscle cars, BMX etc. I've had candy sprayed over Chrome several times. It looks amazing! I think he has some examples on his website. WWW.dylanscoatings.com
