Gentlmen... may i introduce...... the Skyway Ace Rim

Been working on this idea for a while now and thought i would give you lot a sneak preview now the finish line is in sight.  big_smile

I started off with a tatty, damaged and hubless set of early etched logo skyways which Scorcher Mick was kind enough to let go at a good price.

Then the unthinkable... turn away now if you are easily shocked  wink

Made a little jig for my router table

The first trial to see how they would take the cutter. It cut lovely with no chatter or splintering  big_smile

Got some red anno suzue hubs off JT Racing and Del was kind enough to send me a few different sized decals to get the scale right inside the hub

http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x455/oldschoolace/2012-11-08111256.jpg

Laced them up tonight in a crazy pattern (spokes were too short  wink) just to see how they would take the tension. I actually shat myself nearing the end of the lacing as the rim was a real crazy shape but it trued up well and should be lovely when i lace them in a 3x pattern  big_smile

Big thanks to Scorcher Mick, JT Racing and Del over on radbmx.co.uk for helping me make this possible  cool

I think that is awesome. But what made you think to do that? Not bashing, just curious.

Ill bet he wanted some z rims and didn't want to pay for them and was creative. That would be my guess.

You don't read much do you..? He CLEARLY stated WHY he did it
"I started off with a tatty, damaged and hubless set of early etched logo skyways which Scorcher Mick was kind enough to let go at a good price."

So ill explain, his set of jacked up skyway mag were jacked up. No hubs chunks missing... 100% unrideable..... Can't be used in a safe manner... Nore can they be used on a show bike. So he did what any one with half a brain did and made them work..
Lol sorry. But it's right there lol.

I'm a rider not a speller... Sorry if you dislike  but I try hard. So please take it easy.
Got me a Model-C aftermarket frame!!!!

I disagree with your reply. Why would he buy a set of ratty mags to do this with is the question? He bought the mags to do this is my take on the question. Great question. If he already owned them, your answer works, but, getting them from someone else means there was a plan in advance.

Well remembered big_smile

Yeah, about 7 prototypes later, alot of head scratching and massive amounts of redesigning for crank clearances etc they are nearly there. Got some elements water jet cut in september and besides a few fine tolerance differences they are almost there.
They have been a real labour of love with some major setbacks but the end is in sight cool

The frame is a pretty rare Batavus and will be painted a deepish blue cool
