A CW and a flood of memories.

I got to chatting with an old riding buddy on facebook yesterday and we were talking about our old bikes. He mentions that he still has his CW California Freestyler and he's sick of bumping his head on it whenever he goes down in his basement.
Yep... you know exactly where this is leading right?

He sent me some pics this morning. I haven't seen this bike in a good 25 years, yet it looks exactly like it did then. He threw a price out that was I thought was very reasonable so I jumped on it. He wants to "keep it in the family" so to speak. I also gave him a promise that I'm not going to flip it on him. Anyway, here it is. Oh the memories...

No offense but I suck at negotiating, so rule of thumb: When dealing with me just assume the price is firm unless I say "OBO".

Thanks guys! I'm just bummed that I won't get my hands on it until some time in 2013. He's a good 7-8 hour drive away.

I was wondering about the fork. Is this an 85 or 86 model. Tell me more...
CW is one brand that I really don't know much about concerning the timeline of frames/parts.

Re: A CW and a flood of memories.

Awesome. That looks incredible.
I had a high school buddy that didn't really ride, who had a purple one. I was thinking of hitting him up on fb last night to ask about it. I'll take this as a sign and do it.

Re: A CW and a flood of memories.

The fork is a early '86. Spinner made them for CW. The pegs at the back of the frame fit into the bosses that are on the fork dropouts. Not too many of those around. wink

Oh yeah, the bike is also an'86. Taiwan made 4130 chromo. Serial will be on the bb shell.

Incredible find ... this is like the next best thing to finding your childhood bike, a friend's bike.  smile
I am sure you know:  US made = serial FS.... and Taiwan made= serial DS...   smile
I am guessing US. What's under the stem pad? smile
Kudos for keeping it in the family! smile

Re: A CW and a flood of memories.

You guys didn't read my follow up post lol! He still lives in my hometown which is 7-8 hours away... so he won't be riding with me and I can't do any close inspections until I get it, probably some time early 2013. I'll revisit this thread and post details then.
