A Night (per OP)

Today I bought my bike. One of the youngsters that works at the shop invited me and my son to the park. He's a real cool guy and mature. So I show up with my boy who is 14, a half an hour earlier than what we had agreed on. While I'm there sitting on the bike in the corner watching the action waiting. My boy is riding around trying to bunny hop, some high school kid says "nice bike and ask what kind is it" blah blah. Then he goes over to his friend talks to him walks away and I here his friend yell out "take it". Oh hell no. My boy is away from me on the other end of the park so I peddle to him told him if something goes down just take off the cavalry is on its way. I called my brother with a quickness. I'm 33 I don't take these things lightly. I go back to my truck and load the bikes. In that time our partner arrives and my brother so we ride over to them and enter the park.

Once we all shake hands and say our greetings I guess everyone else saw who we were with and either accepted it as cool or they just plain didn't want none. So we chill for half an hour nothing and call it a night.

A very upsetting night for me to say the least. I wanted to get the maglight from the truck and crack them with it. I didn't feel scared I felt pissed and insulted. If these punks had actually tried to use force to take our bikes, BIG mistake, I am a CCW holder. I hope never to have to resort to that. But outnumbered with your 14 year old and your literally trapped in a cage as you have seen most skate parks are, makes me say stupid kid and stupid me. You for trying to steal a bike and ultimately me for defending myself cause your not getting it without a fight.

The wife met me at the park I was gonna have her take our boy home. I just decided to call it a night. I have to admit I was pissed. I kept thinking of going back. Of course the wife is doing what wives do. Telling me it's not worth the trouble I would get into for some pot head kids. Which I know shes right, but when your angry your angry. I was shaking at first typing this but now I feel better. I guess I just needed to vent.

Is this what skateparks have become? Taken over by punks smoking weed, hiding in the pool. Looking to see who they can roll. I'm so glad I didn't just drop off my son with his bike and say have fun.

Where do you live? burbs, hood, city?

Where the music stinks, and they water the drinks, at the nudie bar.
Where the girlies dance in their underpants, at the nudie bar.
Where you see their butt, and their trap stays shut, at the nudie bar.
Where you can’t touch a breast, but you can cave in a chest, at the nudie bar.
Where you look at a thigh, and blacken an eye, at the nudie bar.
Where a buck’s enough to see their stuff, at the nudie bar.
Where the breasts may be fake but man do they shake, at the nudie bar.
Where you swear like a sailor, and wish you could nail her, at the nudie bar.

Re: A Night (per OP)

I don't know where you are talking about, but not all  skateparks are that way.  Most I have been to the riders have been cool! They have their  groups and until they know you they will seem to keep to themselves. There are bad seeds everywhere and one run in can make a bad impression. Im sorry but if I get jumped by a bunch of 14 year olds, Im going down swinging and the maglight will get used.  Alot of kids these days don't know what dicipline is, the parents are afraid of the schools or others turning them in just for a spanking. My girlfriends kid at ten was calling her a Biotch and me a foucker until I threw him over my knee and spanked him 3 times. He freaked, kicked a hole in the door and wall. But has never talked like that to his mother or me since.

Dont give up on the skateparks there are so many awesome parks and people to ride with out there.  Just keep your guard up and have fun.

I started riding 20" bikes at 4 years old and I still ride 45 years later! But as I see it, why not!!!!

Btw I have nothing against survivors, but I like my bikes looking nice and new! So dont hate!!!! LOL!

Where I grew up it was riders vs. thrashers. They swing their skateboards at us but we had freewheels tied to a rope and that's what hit their faces. Those days are long gone. These days I'd probably just walk away.. just not worth the hassle. I feel ya though and that is expected, you have to protect your family.

Re: A Night (per OP)

It all depends on the neighborhood, but even in the nice neighborhoods, you're going to have bullies and punks, it's been that way forever.  I usually stick to pay-to-play parks, cuts out most (if not all) of the riff raff.  I almost never go to a new park alone, and I do occasionally carry my glock with me when I'm at a new park or one in a bad neighborhood.

You'll always have this kind of stuff, a result of the state of our society, you have to protect yourself and your property.  There's also the chance that it wasn't what you read in to it, the kid could have been yelling about something else completely, me, personally, I would have let them make a try for the bike if I had any suspicions and dealt with it then, but I'm kind of used to being in some crazy situations.

Oh your bike doesn't have a scratch on it?

Re: A Night (per OP)

I always respectfully address stuff like that immediately just to make sure were all on the same page. wink Usually most kids get embarassed that they have been confronted and feel like jackasses afterwards.  If they are still not understanding how they should be acting I've even got pissed off enough and pulled out my phone and say well we'll see what the Police say about that and then they get all tripped out.  I want to punch kids like this but you can't.  sad  I've even broke up fights at skateparks before and had to stick up for kids who are literally getting beat on.  Sad but true.

Unfortunately in Canada we're not allowed to carry guns(damn shame),but whenever I go riding,I always carry my Emerson karambit or one of my hawkbill blades with me,I have been trained in Eskrima and know how to serious phuck someone up if I wanted to....even kill them.If someone or some people want to rob me for my bike, they just gave me a reason to go Wolverine on their ass.

That's crazy. Sad thing is, you always have to keep your guard up. It doesn't matter when or where. Always know your surroundings. But...Don't let it stop you from having fun with your kid.

Remember...there are times where just walking away is the best thing to do. It doesn't make you a wuss. These punk-a$$ kids just aren't worth it. Plus, nowadays...you never know what the kid has (knife, gun). I've had to walk away a few times. Not because I was scared or a pussy, but because of who I was with (my kid) and/or because of what I do for a living. BUT...I will say that if I really have to, I will start swinging.

Re: A Night (per OP)

Kinda shitty that you and your son went through this but I'll be honest, you will be in a lot more trouble if you had taken out your gun and god forbid you had used it. At the end if the day you ccw is for a life threatening situation.

No way in hell will the cops or judge view a bike getting stolen as a life threatening situation and if you had taken out the gun, and the kids called the cops on you, you would not be typing this story right now. It was a good experience for you, to see what could happen, but now you can learn from it.

Did your son get the bunnyhop down?

Re: A Night (per OP)

Teenagers being jerks?  Threatening to steal your kids bike?  Not a new story.  I'm sorry your kid had to see that and you got so pissed.  Yes, wherever teens hang out they smoke pot and do stupid stuff.  You don't have to be scared of letting your kid go to the park but you did the right thing by making your presence know.

I ride at a rough ass park with no rules whatsoever.  I've had plenty of close calls and have found the best way to diffuse them is to start off by being cool to those around you.  Let them know you are just there to ride and be respectful.  Even when they are half your age.

Your gun has no place at the skatepark.

Im also a CPL holder...just an fyi, many states including my own do not let you defend property, only life. Only pull your weapon if youre going to use it, otherwise you could get in serious trouble for brandishing a firearm.

In my state, one can only use deadly force if his/her life is threatened with great bodily harm or another life. Then shoot the attacker/s until your gun melts. If they are unarmed, the attacker/s better be alot bigger than you or multiple attackers.

When done, call the police. When they arrive, say nothing until you have spoken to council.

You will be arrested and detained, and your firearm will be taken forever. The prosecutor will then determine weather to file charges or not.

Don't know where you live, but I live in a place where a 13 year old will shoot you for a couple dollars?

This is one of my best friends son. Killed over a girl he wasn't doing anything but giving a ride home.

I have been to a couple "rough" skate parks also...they are just in crap neighborhoods for whatever reason...

but the older teens did not say or do much when "adults" or me, I guess lol would show up...but who knows what went on at other times.

I am surprised these kids would attempt this in general, but then again, I am not surprised...
