hutch pedals or crupi?
what pedals are the best, the new school hutch pedals offered on their website,or the crupi pro rounds,to be re- released in december.
and while on the topic of pedals, why is it so hard to acquire pedals made my bullseye these days.
seems like their stock is either limited release or completely sold out, something going on over at bullseye?

Re: hutch pedals or crupi?
Both are nice. Crupis are a little more beefy with the taller cage and thicker body.

I have a newer pair of the JDB Hutch peds on a rider and they are fine and dandy. No issues here and I've had them on a bike for 10 months now.

I've never owned Hutch pedals new or old. I love my Crupi rounds, I have them on 2 of my bikes.

Re: hutch pedals or crupi?
well i wasnt the ones i had were new and the bearings felt like crap. they felt cheap like spinning my friends odyssey twisted pedals. didnt have that silky smooth feel sealed bearings should have at all. my standards are higher than most i will admit but yeah to me they sucked

JP and Crupi are almost exact so saying one is better than the other is odd to me.
I have JP squares and I love them. I've owned Crupi rounds and squares and thought them to be excellent. New Hutch peds are also excellent.
It's pretty hard to eff up machined aluminum and sealed bearings. Only drawback I can see is the chrome plated bodies on the Hutch pedals compared to polished bodies o the Crupis.

Re: hutch pedals or crupi?
jp is better than crupi onluy because they held closer tolerances on their spindle lengths and bearing bore depths thus they are more consistantly free spinning without slop. plus their 17-4 heat treated stainless spindles are way cooler that crupi's 4130 black oxide coated ones

Re: hutch pedals or crupi?
I love Both. The Crupi pedals and JP are true machined aluminum pedals, the Hutch are not; they are cast aluminum. The Beartrap pedals are the style my foot loves. I cant speak on the Bullseye pedals...like you, I have had a hard time finding a pair I like.

Got ya.
I agree, the SS spindles are cooler. My JP Squares are my most favourite pedals I own.

Mine bite me not while riding, (thank god) but always when I'm walking the bike into the garage. I sometimes get the back of my right calf with those damn meat-shredder cages and it is an instant blood fest.

Re: hutch pedals or crupi?
I ran Suntour XC2 pedals back in the 80’s before saving up enough to buy my Hutch Pro pedals. When I would slip a pedal the pain from the XC2 was more intense due to the flat, blunt cages nailing my shins on a regular basis. On the rare occasion I would slip my Hutch pedals I would always end up bleeding but with less pain.
As for quality having owned both original Hutch pedals and now two sets of the new Hutch pedals my opinion is that the set I purchased from JDB this past spring are virtually identical to my original 80’ set. The first new JDB set I got that were from the first 50 numbered boxes had a few bugs to work out, they did not spin great and the spindles were defective as is widely known now.
The bugs are worked out now. My new set is awesome and right up there with my original set in both appearance and quality. One thing that would be an improvement for the Hutch pedals would be the use of a little taller cage to help them dig in a little better the way Crupi pedals do.
Crupi pedals are no longer being made but Hutch pedals are so the choice is obvious if you want a new set. Crupi/JP pedals are built a little better being that they are machined from billet aluminum and not cast aluminum.
My original Hutch pedals had an issue with the cage screws coming loose but a drop of loctite fixed that. Hutch did not use lock washers on the original set I had so I took the washers off my new set to get the original look. If you do that you better loctite them.
I still prefer the look of the Hutch pedals any day. Do the Hutch pedals you will be glad you did.
