Re: Decided Clean up the Haro Master and keep it a survivor (maybe)

Looks really good man. I'm currently cleaning/assembling mine also.
The chrome came out great on the dropouts too cool

Now like we had said before, if you ride it a couple of times and you don't think keeping survivor is for you, I'm sure someone will trade you a finished one or you can always redo one yourself.

Keep the pics coming big_smile
Great work!

Re: Decided Clean up the Haro Master and keep it a survivor (maybe)

Having a little trouble getting the last bit of rust off the dropouts.  I had to destroy the seat post to get it out. Other than that it has gone kinda smooth. Now I need to decide mags or rims

Try a little aluminum foil with water or Coca cola works very well.

Also u can try Loctite Rust Remover" in the jelly form. Works really good also.
Let it sit for 10-15min and scrub it with soft steel wool. Good luck!

Don't use any steel wool on there!!!

You can use some navel jelly but don't let it sit too long, a few short shots with the jelly should get those tough spots to clean up.

So happy to see you decided to go this route vs re-powdering, it looks great!

Nice Master.  Why don't we like using steel wool on chrome?  I have used 000 steel wool on chrome for years without any problem.

Even 0000 wool can damage chrome if you are not super careful.

There are many other alternatives that render steel wool too risky to mess with.

Re: Decided Clean up the Haro Master and keep it a survivor (maybe)

I know, and can see what you're talking about in the crease of the standers.  I've worked on this before.  It's the bare metal, chrome is gone in there, you won't be able to do much with it..

For me..  I think it's cool.  A 25 year old bike shouldn't be all bling..  for me, it ads to the flavor of the bike.  I think it looks awesome the way it is, and wouldn't change a thing.

Build it up, have fun with it!  smile

Re: Decided Clean up the Haro Master and keep it a survivor (maybe)

Nice bike dude! I wasn't too big on the whole survivor look at first  but I'm starting to appreciate it's beauty.
I had to think about it twice before finally decide to not redo my Mike Dominquez DB. It's coming along!
Maybe I'll start a survivor thread soon... smile
