problem with my new flight cranks
just got my new flight cranks from ed at planet bmx,one of the crank arms rattle with the sound of loose metal,or filings,
ive tried to get it out with a magnet, didnt work, has anyone else had this happen before to a pair of flights,if so what did you do to fix it?
ive emailed ed about returning them, just thought it was weird, never had that happen before.

Re: problem with my new flight cranks
I've got the same problem, though I ordered them from a different source. The drive side crank arm is the one that is rattling. So far, no luck getting the filings out, but I haven't spent too much time on the problem. Yet. Might be annoying if it's audible while riding...

I used to have frame that make same sound, when I ride in the woods all of my friends think there rattle snake around by.
Build it, Ride it and Break it. That what it was made for.

Re: problem with my new flight cranks
I had a loose piece inside a new set of Flights I purchased recently. The vendor said it was somewhat common. I was able to get the piece out in about 10 minutes. It was almost like a little metal stone.

Re: problem with my new flight cranks
Just fixed mine, took maybe five minutes.
There was what appeared to be a pebble in mine - it was too big to extract out of the threaded hole for the sprocket bolt with a pair of tweezers. So, after lining up the pebble with the hole, I inserted a flat screw driver on top of the pebble and tapped it with a hammer. I did this twice, breaking the pebble into smaller pieces which I was able to shake out of the crank arm.
I would have thought the rattling was caused by metal filings from the machining/drilling process, but not so. If anything, it appeared to be a polishing/tumbling stone which is probably used to smooth the crank arm surfaces.

Re: problem with my new flight cranks
shoot a lil bit of expanding foam in there, that will take care of the rattle

And add about 2 pounds to it.
I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy.

not with a lil squirt, shoot it in then turn it so the piece falls into it when its wet. that foam doesn't weigh hardly anything. I can fill a 1.5 cube box and it only adds maybe a quarter pound to the box.
I use to make backgrounds for reptile tank, stuff is super light.

Re: problem with my new flight cranks
they make a glue material for rattles in golf club heads. usually they drill a small hole, drip it in and rattle it around until the "rattle" finds the glue like a fly to fly paper. Once it finds the glue it permanently stops the rattle. Check golfsmith's web site.
