Re: > NYLON SCREW < For Haro Freestyle/Group 1 Stem
My stems have the original screws in them, but I've seen nylon screws like that in *good* hardware stores.
They are shorter than the ones shown, like 1/2 or 1/3 of that length. You can definately find these. I would take your stem to a hardware store and experiment.

Re: > NYLON SCREW < For Haro Freestyle/Group 1 Stem
I don't remember there being enough room to thread something of that length all the way in. Since it is soft plastic, I've tried to keep mine in and not blemish it with a screw driver. I guess if you trimmed it, you could set the right length so it went in all the way.
I'm not sure of the thread pitch either. I think I have a spare Haro stem in my basement. I'll be back in a few minutes and see if I can learn anything from it.

Re: > NYLON SCREW < For Haro Freestyle/Group 1 Stem
The stem I found had the nylon screw out of it. I must have transfered it to another bike. Looking at it up close, though, I think now I remember it was not even as long as the thickness of the top plate on the stem. So, it's not a very long screw.

Does that screw do anything? Or is it just there?

Re: > NYLON SCREW < For Haro Freestyle/Group 1 Stem
I don't even remember anymore. It may just plug up the hole that enabled a cable to go through for a rotor.
You're welcome Mefisto. I wish I could do more immediately but it's pretty late here and I need to drive home. There's a chance I could provide a little more help tomorrow, especially if that stem is off being painted.

Re: > NYLON SCREW < For Haro Freestyle/Group 1 Stem
OK. I took my 1987 Haro Master Group 1 stem in to the hardware store today.
What fit was an M6 x 1.0 pitch screw. I had to use a stainless screw to determine, because they didn't have that size in nylon. So, there's the thread size. The length, as I said, is a bit shorter than the thickness of the stem's top plate.
Find something in white, one slot for a flathead screwdriver, M6 x 1.0 pitch, fairly short length and you got it.

Any old barrel adjuster of the right size will work. I usually have tons of them lying around that came from old brakes, broken gyro cables, etc. If you just dig though piles of old bike parts one always turns up
