Plating over solder?

I have an old stem coming that has a few bashes on it.
I was thinking of filling these in with solder and then chrome plating over the top of it all?
Anyone know if this will work? Will the plating 'stick' to the solder? Thanks

Re: Plating over solder?

solder might not stick/hold up. i would fill with lead, that always seems to work

Re: Plating over solder?

Thanks - both good ideas. I think i'll get it welded up then file as lead seems as though it may be a bit soft.

Re: Plating over solder?

Yep brass is good too. Thanks. Guess they could plate over the top of two different metals at once?!?! Anyone know for sure if this would be OK or mess the process up?
