Do you ever wonder...
Edit: Too many people have only read the first sentence then replied thinking this post is about squeezing money out of bikes. Read on, the post is just the opposite of that.
Do you ever wonder what your late 70's or 80's BMX bike will be worth in ten or twenty years?
Most of us in our late 30's to late 40's know what we have in our possession and what we have is coveted by others in our age range . For me it's a Hutch Trick Star, for others it's CW, Robinson, Profile, GT, Redline, and the list goes on and on. I ask this because no one at the skate park knows what an awesome bike that I ride, I have to tell them that it is a top of the line bike from 30 years ago. My bike is cool looking, is light, I G-turn, bar rides, rock walk, infinity roll, back yard, tail whip, squeaker, and do a couple of other tricks on it (I honestly don't remember their names). I'm very gentle with my Hutch Trick Star rider, no bouncing tricks, no high jumps, or anything else that I think may crack the frame. So everyone at the skate park knows me and knows that I do some cool tricks... tricks that happens to be old school but are new to them, but none of them knew of the name Hutch let alone Trick Star.
So back to my original question; Do you ever wonder what your late 70's or 80's BMX bike will be worth in ten or twenty years? My answer is 'Yes, I do! As long as my bike is in my possession, no matter what any current rider doesn't know about it, my bike will always be priceless to me." I'm totally stoked to have another bike like the one I rode when I was a kid. I'm going to ride this bike until I break a hip.
History:
I rode in the early 80's until the late 80's. Life happened and I didn't ride for 25 years. My son saw pics of me doing a bar ride, a gut lever, and a back yard, and got interested. I bought two cheap-o Walmart bikes and he started doing well. We looked into affordable modern flatland bikes and I ended up getting him a St. Martin Darwin. That left me with a tank of a bike that was too long, too heavy, and with way too much rake, and with no brakes (re-learning the bar ride demolished my brake levers, so I just got rid of them completely to keep on doing bar rides.), so I set out to find another Trick Star to ride. I searched google site:www.craigslist.org for anything HTS... I saw some cool stuff, but eventually found a frame on bmxmuseum.com and built it up with midschool stuff.
I'm totally happy about my bike and I'm stoked to be a member here, and my bike is priceless to me! Thank you for reading.

I wonder if I'll still be able to ride in 20yrs., when i'm in my 50's
Not if my bikes will be worth a ton of cash...
Where the music stinks, and they water the drinks, at the nudie bar.
Where the girlies dance in their underpants, at the nudie bar.
Where you see their butt, and their trap stays shut, at the nudie bar.
Where you can’t touch a breast, but you can cave in a chest, at the nudie bar.
Where you look at a thigh, and blacken an eye, at the nudie bar.
Where a buck’s enough to see their stuff, at the nudie bar.
Where the breasts may be fake but man do they shake, at the nudie bar.
Where you swear like a sailor, and wish you could nail her, at the nudie bar.

Me too! Big time I agree! I will be in my early sixties in 20 years and my Hutch Trick Star will mean the world to me.

Pfft, just some super awesome BMX company from the 80's. Don't bother looking them up, no one probably cares about them anymore.

Under my profile pic click on 'Bikes' to see pics of my Trick Star.
This is when I just started trying to bar ride on my POS Walmart bike. I wish I knew how to embed the video.

Most will drop value as we get old and die off. The best OG and restos of top notch bike could hold or gain more value.
Just look at what is starting to happen to Scwhinn Sting Rays. Spend what you want and have fun BMX was never about
making money.

Re: Do you ever wonder...
I am the worst collector on here. I have always viewed bikes and parts as transient. I broke everything I rode back then. Went straight to the trash. Never crossed my mind to think of a value. I totally appreciate all the guys who have saved and restore the old stuff. I love it dearly. I don't put monetary values on my stuff easily. I am not one to spend money on old parts. I'd rather trade. That way it keeps it honest and clean.
ride your bike until it breaks.

I think the values have about peaked. The people who grew up on os bikes are in their 30s and 40s and enjoying their childhood memories while we can. I predict demand will decrease as will prices.
