~AUBURN PROTOTYPE CRUISER: RIDEABLE WEIGHT WEENIE BUILD: STEP BY STEP~
For the past few months I have been going about determining what light weight parts to use for my Auburn prototype cruiser "weight weenie" build.
Between member Legendofjd3 and member tmac with their custom titanium carver builds, these have inspired me to build my own "weight weenie" out of a prototype Auburm hydro formed aluminum frame.
So far, I think I will be using the answer dagger fork. It's super light weight, strong and its offered in white so it should match the white Auburn perfect. I saw a set of NOS FMF powermoto rims on here a few months back so I grabbed them. I heard these are super light and strong. The logos are white which is a plus, but not sure ill be going with the rims yet.
Stay tuned and subscribe to see this ultimate transformation of a NOS prototype Auburn cruiser become one of the lightest cruisers ever built.
I will take you step by step and bolt by bolt photographing and discussing the process.
Please feel free to chime in. Please, no negative comments, if you have something negative to say, pm me or simply just move along.
Enjoy,
Sean
exact frame specs coming shortly.

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy.

Re: ~AUBURN PROTOTYPE CRUISER: RIDEABLE WEIGHT WEENIE BUILD: STEP BY STEP~
Lots of decisions are still up in the air as far as parts. I'd like to use some exotic fsa, jad or pmc cranks, but some others may be lighter. I'm still trying to figure out which route I'm going on the drive train.

I would like to use carbon bars. Only bombshell offers pro bars and they are not cruiser size. It says they are coming out with other sizes so maybe ill have to wait for those ones to come out. Hopefully they will have carbon pro cruiser bars.

if you dont already have one you might want to pick up a digital scale to weigh your parts to get a final weight tally

MSRP of $260, but I'm sure you could find them cheaper.

Ya, hopefully.... My brother owned a bike shop up until 3 years ago. He still has tons of parts, connections and other options hopefully available to order wholesale, or do an "EP".

For sure. I think I'm going to have to do that. It would be nice to have one to verify each part individually.

Agreed. I found out that the claimed weight of some parts was way off. Head on over to Ebay or wherever and pick up a decent gram scale for less then $10.

For the scale, what should I look for as far as the max grams, like as far as the heavier stuff. What one were you using legend?

I'm using a Digiweigh scale. It goes up to approx 300g I think. Scale was pretty cheap but is highly accurate. I would of liked something to weigh the heavier stuff but it'll do.

Its Been a while since I have posted on this thread. I really have not been focusing on this build, but I really would like to after I finish my S&M.
I have the option of two different sets of rims I can use. Either white sun envy rims, or FMF powermoto rims.
What your thoughts between the two. I'm hinting on the sun envy rims because the white matches the frame great.
