lillaRe's RL-20II - 2013 Calendar Build-Off
This is my entry in the 2013 BMX Museum Calendar Build-Off. I started this thread to display more photos and tell you all a little about the build.
My Offical Entry Post
I bought this 1987 Redline RL-20II frameset from a fellow Museum member. It had a crack in the keyhole and it was missing one of the cable guides on the fork, so I sent the F/F to Chip at C4 Labs for repairs and a new coat of powder. Chip did an awesome job hooking it up, as usual. The repairs and new powder look great and I could not be happier with it.
The frame when I received it:
The crack
:
The frame after I got it back from C4:
Crack repaired:
New cable guide welded on(upper):
The seller also hooked me up with a great deal on some OG decals. They are thick, glossy and look awesome!

It wouldn't be a lillaRe build without 401s, so of course this build ended up with a nice chrome set and a polished 44T sprocket.
And I know caged pedals don't belong on a freestyle bike, but I'm an XC-II junkie and I had them on my freestyle bike BITD. I can't get enough of them and the NOS set I bought for this build is absolutely beautiful.

I bought a Hutch Western H stem for the build, but the original white finish on it really doesn't match the color of the freshly-powdered frame, so I snagged this shiny white one from a member here. This stem is so white that it's actually whiter than the frame, which I didn't think was possible. ![]()

This build was especially cool for me because it was the first time I ever installed a rotor. I stopped riding right around the time they were becoming popular, so I never had one BITD. I hadn't put one on any of my recent builds yet either, but since this is an '87, I decided to go for it.
I jumped all over this NOS set of Nippons and Tech 6 levers when they showed up in the For Sale section. The pads (that obviously need a little adjusting) are NOS Kool Stops with, what I assume is, repro hardware. I can't get enough of the round/finned brake shoes either. Even if they aren't "correct" for a build, I have to use them.

As you could see in that last picture, I went with my favorite grip of all time - the Oakley B-2. These are a little worn, but they are the real deal. The donuts came off an '85 Redline I scored a while back, so I have no idea which brand they are, but I'm almost positive they are from the 80's. They sure look like they are. I was going to go with a set of red donuts, but I'm still waiting on them at this time. With hurricane Sandy heading our way, I gave up on waiting and took pictures with the black ones for now.
I went with an Elina Flyte-Tech seat I had. It's in great shape, aside from one area, where it looks like someone tried sanding out a scuff or something. The white text on the back is just a vinyl decal.
The wheels are a set of 1st gen Peregrine 48's and the tires are a NOS set of IRC Freestyle tires. The rims are not in the best shape, but they're not terrible either. This is my favorite set of wheels, so they had to go on my favorite bike.
I had a buddy of mine cut some custom vinyl for my reproduction forklifter plate. I had a chance to buy a real FL plate, but wow, that was some crazy money for a plate, so I passed. I'll stick with the fake for now.
I never got a good shot of the bars, but they were re-chromed at some point and they are perfect.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the pics. I was worried about shooting a white bike. White cars always give me fits.
I'd be happy to shoot your bike, but yeah, I doubt you'd want to take a road trip with Sandy heading our way. You'd better get out there today sometime or you might be forced to do an indoor shoot, in the dark. ![]()

Oh and just so nobody thinks I picked my RL-20 Prostyler of all it's parts and left it for dead, here's a shot my buddy took of it and my RL-20II together. As you can see, it's alive and doing well. My Hollywood, on the other hand, well... ![]()

Thanks PW and Mike! I appreciate it guys. I'm pretty psyched about this one. I've been wanting to get my hands on a RL-20II for a while now. This bike is definitely a keeper.

Re: lillaRe's RL-20II - 2013 Calendar Build-Off
Just an update... this bike got the 2nd most votes in the Calendar Build-Off. It will be the December bike in the calendar, so if you really like my build, buy a calendar and hang it on your wall for a month!
